A Garden For Every School

Garden activities and education provide a wide range of positive benefits for kids, communities and the environment. We’ve seen that in action at our own Kansas Avenue Learning Garden, with kids from nearby Amity Creek Elementary and the Boys and Girls Club. The kids love being outside, tasting fresh food and getting their hands dirty while they learn. And their teachers report that our outdoor classroom is a great complement to what they learn indoors!

We want to take what we’ve learned here on Kansas Avenue to more local kids and schools. Our vision is a garden for every school in Central Oregon.

With your support, we’ll give more teachers and students access to an on-site, outdoor classroom that provides hands-on experience growing food and/or native and pollinator plants. We’ll get more kids outside and actively engaged in their learning, enhancing what they learn indoors.

Research indicates that integrating garden-based learning into the school environment generates a variety of positive outcomes for students – including physical, intellectual, psychological and more.

Achieving our vision will require several types of support for teachers, schools and gardens. Check out our 4 strategies that we are using to achieve our vision for a garden for every school in Central Oregon!.
