A Garden for Every School

Grants have been awarded for the 2023-2024 school year. Read about these exciting projects here!

Building and sustaining successful school gardens requires cash and lots of sweat equity. So in 2016, we began taking what we’ve learned at our Learning Garden to more local schools, through a “Garden For Every School” initiative.

Thanks to community and foundation support, we have created a Central Oregon School Garden Grant Fund that will award grants each year to support school gardens.

Does your school or community garden need compost?

Our Garden for Every School program is collaborating with Republic Services to provide free compost to school and community gardens in Central Oregon this spring. Gardens interested in participating can register and order using the link below!

District level support

A supportive context is essential to school garden success. We will work with school district stakeholders – administrators, operations staff, teachers and parents – to collaboratively develop and implement best practices for creating and sustaining school gardens.

We've worked with the Redmond School District and Bend-LaPine School District to create a school garden development process that ensures everyone is working together to ensure a sustainable school garden. New gardens seeking our garden grant funding will have to complete that application before being considered.

A first step to developing any school garden is to create your team. Check out our School Garden Development Best Practices Guide (below) to get you started.
