The Environmental Center is committed to protecting the privacy of our supporters and donors in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Online Privacy Protection Act (CalOPPA). We will not sell, rent, or give away your contact information to anyone else under any circumstances.
What Information Do We Collect?
The only personally identifiable information (PII) we collect is the information you provide to us during the course of your visit to our website. In various places on our website, we gather email addresses and other basic contact information as visitors subscribe to our electronic and/or print publications or RSVP for events. We also gather contact information from individuals who choose to donate to us via our website, so that we can process their donations, acknowledge them in a timely manner, and keep donors informed about the impact of our work.
The Environmental Center hires third-party service providers to host and manage our website and online publications. Third-party service providers are not permitted to use or share any personally identifiable information that we provide to them as part of our service agreement.
As part of our commitment to GDPR and CalOPPA compliance, we want to inform you that we use Google Analytics and basic functional cookies on our website. Like most website operators, The Environmental Center does track and access some information from server logs and our third-party service providers. This information includes the number of visitors to our website, pages viewed, type of browser and operating system used, domain name of your Internet service provider, the entry/exit page to our site, the number of people who open our e-newsletter, and the links clicked through to our website or other websites. We use this information to better understand people's interest in our work and how people use our website and e-newsletter. It is a valuable feedback tool for us.
How Do We Protect Sensitive Personal Information?
The Environmental Center takes every precaution to protect our subscribers and donors' information. When users submit sensitive information via the website, their information is protected both online and offline.
When our website asks users to enter sensitive information (such as mailing addresses and credit card numbers), that information is encrypted and is protected with the best encryption software in the industry -- Secure Sockets Layer (SSL).
While we use SSL encryption to protect sensitive information online, we also protect this information offline. All of our subscribers and donors' information is restricted in our offices. Only employees who need the information to perform a specific job are granted access to personally identifiable information. All of our databases are password-protected to ensure that unauthorized users cannot access sensitive data.
We do not retain any of your credit card information in our system or databases. All credit card details are processed by an outside verification and payment processing service in a secure environment.
What Choices Do You Have for Communicating With Us Online?
You can opt out of receiving communications from us. You may request access to personally identifiable information we collect about you through our electronic communications and you may request corrections to that information.
