Solidarity Statement from The Environmental Center
The Environmental Center stands in unwavering solidarity with all communities that face systemic marginalization and oppression, including migrant and Indigenous people.
We recognize that the fight for environmental justice is inseparable from the struggle for racial, social, and economic justice.
We denounce the ongoing and escalating acts of discrimination, violence, and injustice faced by these communities and oppose policies and actions that threaten their safety, dignity, and well-being. Tonight, we want to express our deep concern for migrant people in our community and nation. We are deeply disturbed by the continued criminalization of migrants, and by policies that continue to separate families and threaten the safety of those who seek refuge and opportunity. We reject the rhetoric of hate and division that targets these individuals and families, and we stand firmly against xenophobia, racism, and harmful immigration policies that tear communities apart. Migrant people deserve dignity, respect, and the right to live free from fear and persecution. These are ongoing injustices we cannot continue to ignore as environmentalists.
The climate crisis is not just an environmental issue but one of deep racial, social, and economic inequity. Indigenous and Black communities, 2SLGBTQ+ people, migrants, and others—are the first to experience the impacts of environmental degradation, whether through displacement, pollution, or violence. Yet they are those who have been systematically excluded from key decision-making processes and often bear the burden of unjust policies and actions. We also call on others in positions of power and influence—governments, institutions, corporations, elected officials, and individuals—to dismantle oppressive systems and policies that perpetuate these injustices.
As we move forward, we do so with the unwavering belief that a truly sustainable world is one in which all people—regardless of their race, identity, migratory, or socioeconomic status—can thrive. We are committed to fostering a world where environmental justice and social justice are not separate battles but intertwined struggles, and where all of our communities can heal and grow together.
We acknowledge the strength of our diverse communities in Central Oregon and beyond, especially the migrant community. We are committed to collaborative relationships that are rooted in mutual respect and the understanding that transformative change requires collective action. We are not just stewards of the land, but also each other.
To migrant people everywhere, sigan adelante.
In solidarity and action,
The Environmental Center

There are many ways to learn about and support our migrant communities in present-day Central Oregon.
- Learn about migrant farmworker’s justice.
- Donate to Oregon’s Immigrant Defense Fund through ECO (Equity Corps Oregon).
