EnviroAnswers: Ductless Heat Pumps

Ductless Heat Pump Video

With ductless heat pumps, you use less energy and save up to 50% more on your monthly electric heating costs. All while giving you even more control over your home’s comfort. And now we’re helping multi-family units reap the benefits of this technology, too! Check out this video we put together, where you can hear from a multi-family housing owner AND tenants who just installed a ductless heat pump and are seeing the benefits first-hand.

So, what is a ductless heat pump?

It’s a highly efficient heating and cooling system using heat pump technology. They pull residual heat from the air and move it through refrigerant lines. When they are in air conditioning mode, they operate just like your refrigerator, and pull the heat from inside your house and move it outside.

Like standard central heat pumps, ductless heat pumps have two main components: an outdoor air condenser and an indoor air handler. Ductless heat pumps, sometimes called mini-splits, can also have multiple heads giving you great zonal control of where you want to heat and cool your home.

How do you know if it’s a good fit for you?

  • You already heat your home with electricity
  • You are replacing or supplementing inefficient baseboard, wall, or ceiling units
  • You are remodeling or adding new homes
  • You are considering adding air conditioning to your home

Making sense of the financials

If you are upgrading an electrically heated home, you could save up to 50% on heating costs which starts to make a ductless heat pump project sounds pretty nice, but you just wait–it gets better than that! Visit The Energy Challenge website to learn more.
