Take Action for Earth Month – Sign Up to Switch to Solar Energy!

Even if you don’t own your home, your roof is too shaded, or any of the other reasons you haven’t been able to go solar before.

As we all grapple with the stark realities that were laid out for us by the world’s leading climate scientists in the United Nations’ sixth climate assessment report, taking action to secure a healthy climate future is imperative. The report was a dire warning of inaction. Instead of feeling hopeless during Earth Month, let’s focus on the fact that we can indeed make a difference. Believe it or not, you can make a big difference in just a matter of minutes!

An easy way to take action this month is to sign up to get your electricity from renewable solar energy that is produced right here in Oregon. You can do this today through Oregon’s Community Solar Program. Oregon’s Community Solar Program has projects coming online this year for Pacific Power customers* and we’ve partnered with Oregon Shines to help our community get signed up for community solar.**

With community solar, subscribers benefit from solar without installing panels on their own roofs. Individuals, businesses, and organizations can subscribe to a central, off-site project and receive the energy benefits for their portion of the project on their current Pacific Power bill. Unlike other programs that support renewable projects such as Blue Sky (which is still a great thing to support!), you will actually see a savings on your electricity bill. At this point, your savings will be about 5%–but remember, you’re getting the added bonus of that savings being for renewable energy! Additionally, income-eligible households can save up to 40% off the cost of their electricity.

This program is so important because it gives households that have traditionally been underserved by solar energy the opportunity be part of the solar market. This lessens barriers such as not owning your home, high up-front costs, or having a shady roof.
