Hike Along the Metolius

Get ready for the first in a series of three hikes along the Metolius River with LandWatch’s very own wildlife program director Nathan Hovekamp!

The first hike will begin at the Wizard Falls Fish Hatchery. We will make our way upstream to Canyon Creek Campground while learning about the flora and fauna of the basin. This is an out-and-back walk that begins and ends at the fish hatchery. The total walking distance is about 5.5 miles. The trail conditions are mostly level with occasional muddy spots, rocks, or tree roots, and mixed sun and shade. Each field trip will take 5-6 hours total, including round trip driving time from Bend.

Suggested equipment: comfortable hiking shoes, sack lunch, plenty of water, sun and bug sauce, binoculars, and field guides.
