High Desert Speaker Series: Sagebrush Sisters
September 3, 2019
$65 – $75Last June, three stalwart Oregonian women – hale and hearty despite their combined 200 and some odd years – hiked more than 50 miles along the pronghorn antelope migration route between Sheldon National Wildlife Refuge in Nevada and Hart Mountain National Antelope Refuge in Oregon. The goal: fulfill a shared lifelong dream to raise awareness about the sagebrush stronghold and critical wildlife habitat that is the land between.
The Oregon Natural Desert Association’s High Desert Speaker Series returns to Bend on January 19th at 7pm with the short film Sagebrush Sisters, a documentary about that hike, and a panel discussion with the three hikers moderated by ONDA’s Greater Hart-Sheldon Region Coordinator Jeremy Austin.
Doors open at 6:30pm at the Old Stone Church in downtown Bend. Sagebrush Sisters: Hiking the Greater Hart-Sheldon Region chronicles the journey of Alice Elshoff, then 80, of Bend, Julie Weikel, 68, of Princeton, and Helen Harbin, 65, of Bend. The event is free and open to the public, and guests are asked to reserve their seats.
