Building on years of experience in the field and Sustainable Building Advisor and Sustainable Homes Professional certifications, he is in the midst of building a ENERGY STAR and Earth Advantage home with above code insulation, high performance windows, a ductless heat pump, tankless water heater and 100% LED lighting.
The Preliminary Energy Performance Score (EPS) for the home comes in at 57 with an estimated annual utility costs of $988. If this home were built to code, it would come in with nearly double the energy use at 101.
The detached ADU where Adam’s parents will reside is also a high performance building. With an EPS coming in at 30, the utility bills for the detached home are estimated to cost about $539 per year.
