3 Reasons to Attend the Sustainability Awards
What are you doing the evening of Thursday, November 2nd? We hope you will join us for an evening of community and celebration at the 2023 Sustainability Awards! Hosted by The Environmental Center every other year, the event honors leaders from around Central Oregon who are embedding sustainability into their daily life and work. Each year highlights an incredible lineup of awardees, and this year’s picks are no exception (plus, we’ve gotten a sneak peek at the handcrafted awards by a local artist and they are amazing!) In case you were still on the fence about attending, here are our top three reasons you definitely don’t want to miss out on this year’s awards:
1. Expand your network
Whether you are interested in the environmental sector, or looking for ideas to apply a sustainability lens to your current work, this event is a great place to meet people who share your values and are open to discussing their experience! Young professionals (or even career-changers), take note– we know it can feel stuffy or awkward to try to network at official networking events like conferences; take this opportunity to do some “out of context networking” and ask those burning questions! Chances are, you’ll connect with at least one person who you wouldn’t have otherwise! We’ll have leaders of small and large businesses, non-profits, educational institutions, and individuals who all have a story to tell.
2. Get inspired
Let’s face it, much of the news you hear about the environment is negative. And it’s true, the climate crisis is upon us and there is much to worry about when it comes to moving forward in a world altered by decades of inaction. But there’s also plenty to celebrate, and a real reason to have hope for the future. This event’s focus is on the change-makers, innovators, and voices of the future who are truly making a difference in our region (and the world!), so you can put your tissues away for now and raise a glass! We’re especially thrilled to showcase a film featuring local youth from Caldera High School’s Green Team.
3. Munch and sip
We’re excited to gather in the iconic High Desert Music Hall, which never disappoints with its ambiance and hospitality. Plus, what event is complete without delicious food and beverage? We’ve got you covered with a heavy aperitivos (appetizers) menu by All Elements Catering, which sources fresh food locally, and beer provided by Kobold Brewing!
Have we convinced you? Tickets are being offered online and at the door at a sliding scale, $5-$25, so please contribute what you are able.
