Welcome Evan! Meet our new Home Energy Assessment Program Coordinator
About Evan: Evan joined The Environmental Center as the Home Energy Assessment Program Coordinator in April of 2026. Before working at The Environmental Center Evan worked around the world as an English and Spanish teacher. Most recently, Evan taught high school government with the Heart of Oregon Corps and installed solar panels at National Solar. Evan attended school at University of Redlands; Johnston Center for Integrative Studies & The Autonomous University of Barcelona for his masters degree in Ecological Economics. Outside of work, Evan likes to ride his mountain bike, ski, disc golf, and backpack with his dog Juniper. Evan loves fantasy and sci-fi books, board games and movies.

We asked Evan a few questions to get to know him better and welcome him to the TEC community!
What drew you to this role?
My background in Ecological Economics taught me all the numerous ways we can help the triple bottom line; profit, people, and planet. This position is a fantastic way I can connect with members of my community, to help them save money and reduce their ecological footprint.
What is your background in energy?
Sugar and gummy bears are the source of my personal energy. Professionally, I’ve installed solar panels and studied energy systems in depth during my masters program. I’m really excited to get more hands-on experience with energy efficiency in homes.
You’ve been all over the world, what country was your favorite and why?
It’s obviously a difficult question to answer, I loved so many of the places I’ve traveled. However there are two places I really connected with that come to mind, Nepal and Cuba. The happy people, fun culture, and fascinating history of Cuba swept me away. The genuine people, the tranquility, and epic beauty of the Annapurna mountains made my month hiking in Nepal unforgettable.
What excited you the most about joining the team at The Environmental Center?
I am honored and ecstatic to be able to work on the most important issues we face, on a local level, in my community. Being born and raised in Bend I have seen it change significantly, some changes for the better, and others for worse. In my new role I will be able to use my expertise and Spanish skills to help those in my community improve their quality of life and help the planet.
What has inspired you to work in the environment and climate space?
Throughout college and my young adult life I became more and more concerned about how our society interacts with nature. My concerns have grown to the point that I cannot continue to live without at least trying to be a small part of the solution. Simply put, our system does not and will not work in the long run. We have an ‘infinite growth’ economic system that runs on finite natural resources. Those two ideas are incompatible. In healthy natural ecosystems, there is no waste, and the system self-balances. I hope to share the idea that we can use the example of nature to help reshape our own systems. We can reduce waste and consumption without compromising all of our comforts. Home energy efficiency upgrades are an excellent way to do just that!
