Legacy Giving
The Environmental Center’s work is about protecting our shared future. Our supporters tell us frequently they appreciate what we do because they want to leave a healthy future for their children and grandchildren.
Your estate plan is a necessary part of providing for your heirs; it’s also an opportunity to more broadly impact future generations. Including The Environmental Center in your plan demonstrates your commitment to a healthy future, for people and the planet. Your gift will help ensure that we have the financial strength and independence we need to remain the leader of the sustainability movement in Central Oregon.
The best way to make an estate plan, will, or other legacy giving arrangements is to consult with your estate lawyer or financial advisor. There are a wide range of legacy giving options explained below, including: wills, living trusts, insurance and retirement account beneficiaries, donating stock or a vehicle.
Please call or email Development Director, Tim Page, at 541-508-5424 or tim@envirocenter.org if you’d like to coordinate one of these special gift types.
Gifts of Stock / Transfer of Securities
By donating appreciated securities you can avoid long-term capital gains tax and deduct the full market value on your tax return.
Gifts of Real Estate and Property
Donations of real estate and other forms of property may be immediate or planned gifts. As with all gifts consult with a qualified professional to help select the option that best meets your needs.
Charitable Trusts
Charitable remainder trusts allow you to make a current charitable gift while still keeping the property and income for a period of time. Charitable lead trusts give property and its income to a charity for a period of time but ownership reverts back to you or your beneficiaries later. These techniques can provide significant tax benefit for some people and should be discussed with a planning professional.
Bequests
A popular and easy planned giving option is providing for The Environmental Center with a bequest or gift in your will or revocable trust. Your assets remain in your control during your lifetime. You can modify your bequest if your circumstances change. After your lifetime The Environmental Center receives the gift and applies it to the purposes(s) you specified.
IRA Gift
Naming The Environmental Center as the beneficiary of your IRA, 401(k) or other qualified plan is another simple way to give. You can continue to take withdrawals during your lifetime. You can also change the beneficiary or designation should your circumstances change. After your lifetime, the residual of your plan passes to The Environmental Center tax-free.
Insurance Gift
You can provide for a future gift to The Environmental Center by naming us as a beneficiary of your life insurance policy. At death the proceeds are paid directly to us and we apply them according to your wishes.
