The Environmental Center has been bringing Mountainfilm on Tour to Bend for 19 years as its annual fundraiser. The event showcases a selection of culturally rich, adventure-packed documentary films curated from the annual Mountainfilm festival held in Telluride, Colorado. In 2022, two weekends of powerful documentaries were shown virtually. Each show featured different films that were available for viewing during a four day window (February 17-20 and February 24-17). The stories in these films seemed to be a reflection of the “indomitable spirit,” just as Mouintainfilm promised. Themes of perseverance, isolation, resilience, connection, and belonging were highlighted throughout.

The 2022 featured films included: All Jokes Aside, The Mystery, How to Count a Wolf, Slim Pickins, Sibling Rivalry, 199 Little Heroes: Jésùs from Mexico, The Captain, Moving Meditation, FACETS, Charge 2, Born From Junk, Golden Age Karate, Tabira, Resilience, Eric and the Bees, Motherload, Made in the Mitten, A Concerto Is a Conversation, You And The Thing That You Love, and Blackberry Swirl.

The stories these films shared ranged from a youth teaching karate to residents in a nursing home to a woman who is the captain of a lobster boat to a businessman who has the only black-owned and operated outdoor shop in the country to a veteran who finds healing through beekeeping. It was genuinely moving. “I felt inspired and challenged watching these films,” said a Mountainfilm attendee, “They left me with a desire to join with members of my community to make a difference, care for our planet, and get outside.”

We look forward to next year’s film tour, hopefully in person at the Tower Theater. Until then, check out our Earth Day event coming up in April!
