Growing Classroom Workshop: Garden-Based Learning Intensive for Educators

Why: To strengthen and grow existing garden-based learning programs in Central Oregon through a 2 day educator workshop kicking off a local Garden Educator Network.

The Environmental Center is excited to be hosting a Life Lab Growing Classroom Workshop for educators in our region! Participants will learn to use a garden to breathe life into standards-based lessons, promote ecological literacy, encourage healthy eating, and support students’ social development. Using Life Lab’s Growing Classroom activity guide for grades K-6, participants in this hands-on workshop experience tried-and-true garden-based lessons linked to Common Core Language Arts and Math and Next Generation Science Standards; practice basic gardening techniques; and develop management strategies for a school garden program.

Expenses for this training are covered by a Gray Family Fund grant, with additional donations provided by Chipotle, Strictly Organic, Great Harvest Bread Company and Boneyard Brewing.
