Thanks to our friends at the High Desert Horticultural Center for the native plant tour for our Garden Educator Network. We had 20 folks, representing schools and orgs from Sunriver, Bend, Tumalo, Redmond and Terrebonne. Teachers got excited about adding new native plants to their school gardens, and were jazzed by the enthusiasm of HDHC nursery manager Ben Snyder who really did such a great job pumping everyone up to the beauty and benefit of our local native plants!

Each school took home a gallon plant and 3 smaller pots from the following choices.
(Click on the plant name to learn more about these plants from Oregon Flora).

In 1 gallon pots:
Heuchera cylindrica – Roundleaf Alumroot
Penstemon deustus – Hot Rock Penstemon
Penstemon euglaucus – Glaucus Penstemon
Penstemon barbatus – Beardlip Penstemon
Erigeron linearis – Linearleaf Fleabane
Sphaeralcea munroana – Munro’s Globemallow
Phlox diffusa – Spreading Phlox

In 4″pots:

We’d like to thank our beverage sponsors of the month, Compassion Kombucha & Sunriver Brewing, as well as our food and plant sponsors for this event, Market of Choice.

The Central Oregon Garden Educator Network is a gathering of formal and non formal educators who bring garden based educational opportunities to their students, either through school gardens, farm field trips, or classroom growing. We get together a few times a year at different locations for school garden tours, trainings and resource sharing opportunities. We serve as the Central Oregon School Garden Coordinator with the Oregon Farm to School Network. This is one of our strategies for our initiative to have a Garden for Every School in our region.
