Teachers as Naturalists: Children’s Forest Summer Institute

September 3, 2019

$65 – $75

Dates: August 10, 11, 26 plus two evenings TBD in October and March

Grade Level: 3-8

Location: Multiple locations on Deschutes National Forest

Join the Children’s Forest for a fun 3-day training exploring local public lands to build natural history knowledge that can be applied to leading outdoor activities with students. Learn from natural resource experts to build your knowledge about Central Oregon ecosystems and issues facing today’s public lands. Teachers will also learn data collection techniques, skills for facilitating field-based inquiry, citizen science tools, and hands-on activities for students. Ample time will be built-in for reflection, planning, and networking. Evening gatherings will occur in October and March to refine activities, align activities to NGSS standards, and collaborate with other teachers. Designed as a cohort model, teachers are strongly encouraged to attend all 5 days and to lead outdoor activities with their students during the school year, with support from the Children’s Forest. Graduate credits and PDUs will be available. Register here.
