In April 2019, Oregon Desert Trail thru-hiker Stacy Boone sustained a debilitating injury in the Owyhee region. In the summer of that same year, long-distance biker Tomas Quinones came to the aid of an unconscious man while he was bikepacking through the Greater Hart-Sheldon.
