Take part in a colorful celebration of our natural world!

The Environmental Center will celebrate Earth Day by hosting its 29th annual Earth Day Fair and Parade on Saturday, April 21st. The free community event is a celebration of sustainable living and our natural world. This year’s event is presented by Strictly Organic Coffee Co.

The annual Earth Day Parade will once again kick off the event. This festive parade will include musicians and percussionists, and children and adults dressed in costumes of their favorite plant, animal or other representation of nature. All families, community groups, schools and organizations are encouraged to create their own costumes for the parade. Two costume-making workshops with local artists are scheduled for Saturday, April 7th and Saturday, April 14th. For other costume ideas and support, email Lauren or call (541) 385-6908 x18.

The parade will be held in downtown Bend with staging at 11:00 a.m. on Louisiana Avenue next to McMenamins. The parade will begin at 11:30 a.m. and ends at the Earth Day Fair on Kansas Avenue in front of The Environmental Center, 16 NW Kansas Avenue.

There are two parade rules: no written words and no motorized vehicles. Well-behaved pets on leashes are welcome.

The Fair runs until 3:00 p.m. and will include live music, food carts, non-profit organizations and green businesses, and a Kid’s Zone with interactive activities. This year’s Fair will also feature an Electric Vehicle Ride & Drive event where you can take an EV for a spin and get your questions answered by EV owners.

At the 2017 Earth Day event, The Environmental Center revealed three, 8-foot tall “Earth Guardians.” Each Guardian is a unique, large-scale puppet that represents our thriving environment. Come meet the River Guardian, Forest Guardian and Plant Guardian at this year’s event!

“The Earth Day Fair and Parade is a great way to celebrate sustainability in action right here in Central Oregon,” said Mike Riley, Executive Director. “This fun community event offers something for everyone, both kids and adults, and inspires families to enjoy and care for our natural world.”
