On Wednesday, July 17, Environment Oregon will be joined by local businesses, citizens and a “Bag Monster” to call on Bend City Councilors to protect the Deschutes, and the Pacific Ocean, by banning plastic bags in Bend.

Whole Foods Market representative, Jason Valdez, will be speaking on why he believes in a single-use plastic bag ban. We will also be announcing public support and the name of two well-known figures who have now endorsed our campaign.

Oregonians use over 1.7 billion plastic bags every year, which contributes to the 100 million tons of trash in the Pacific Ocean. This is an environmental disaster, killing thousands of sea birds and marine animals, like sea turtles, every year. Bend prides itself on being an environmentally friendly city, and can be a leader on this issue in central Oregon.
