Meet Casey!

363A91B6-5E1B-478A-8BCE-FBAEFF36432F

We are so excited to welcome Casey to the team! Casey is currently a sophomore in college, and using her summer to work with us on the Energize Bend campaign. Casey will be working on gathering information on how the City of Bend should use the brand new Climate Impact Fee to create a designated fund for financing local energy upgrades for locals in Central Oregon. We have Casey for a few months and we couldn’t be more stoked! Learn more about Casey below:

Where are you from and what brought you to Bend?

I grew up in Bend and absolutely love it here! There’s no better place to be a kid – or an adult – than in the Cascade Mountains and the High Desert. I enjoy hiking, backpacking, skiing and simply exploring our natural spaces.

What attracted you to Energize Bend?

I first encountered Energize Bend in high school and their work was really inspiring and motivating to me. Building electrification is such an important way we can take climate action here in Bend.

What is your personal interest in energy?

Energy transition is one of the most impactful ways we can make change from a local scale! Especially at such a key moment of growth in our community, it’s so important we decrease our carbon emissions in this area. Energy is also such a large part of cost of living, and electrification and the shift to renewables are opportunities to move towards sustainability in an equitable fashion.

What is your favorite form of renewable energy and why?

I think that within Bend the growth of – and opportunity for more – solar energy is really exciting. I also find wave energy and nuclear energy fascinating, though!

What is a topic you geek out about?

I love to nerd out about gardening! Whether yapping about soil science or about the importance of urban and community garden spaces and local food systems, I love talking about all things plants. I also love to share about what I’m currently growing: my latest adventure was growing tomatoes in my college dorm room.
