Salmon 101: Understanding the Lifeblood of the Pacific Northwest
September 3, 2019
$65 – $75Without a doubt, salmon is one of the most iconic species of the Pacific Northwest. Its significance is far-reaching, and for thousands of years, has been at the center of cultural practices, rituals, and economic activities. Salmon are also an indicator species, in that they serve as a key measure of ecosystem health and vitality.
Unfortunately, and in large part due to the disturbance of stream habitat from dams, logging, and mining, many salmon species — of which, Oregon has five– are facing significant declines. Now more than ever, we need all Oregonians to speak up for this incredibly important species before it’s too late.
Whether you are new to Oregon or a seasoned salmon expert, join the team at Oregon Wild as they welcome spokesperson Jeremy FiveCrows of the Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission. In this webcast, he will give an overview of the various salmon species in the state and discuss the cultural and ecological importance of restoring them and their fragile habitat.
