With support from The Forest Service and the Children’s Forest of Central Oregon, our youth education team successfully delivered fifteen outdoor school days at Skyliner Lodge and Shevlin Park this spring. Christina Albert, Outdoor School Coordinator, led the charge with the help of two talented interns: Jennifer Burnett and Alondra Schuster.
Twelve regional elementary schools from Sunriver to Redmond participated in the Forest Explorer program. Students developed a sense of place and connection to our region by learning about habitats, life cycles and cycles in nature by rotating through a variety of activities.
Cascade Middle School students joined the Exploring Community program, and participated in team-building activities, a hike, and forest ecology activities as they compared relationships in nature to building community within their own schools.
The Children’s Forest Intern Program created opportunities for high school and college students to gain valuable experience working outside with students. Jennifer Burnett shared her wealth of natural resources knowledge with students, while Alondra Schuster helped middle school students build relationships through team-building initiatives.
