School’s out, but gardens are still growing!

Garden harvest radishes

It’s time to replenish our School Garden Grant fund so that MORE local kids can get outside and reap the benefits of learning in a garden. We need to raise $7,500 from donors by July 27th.

Research indicates that garden-based learning generates positive outcomes for students – including physical, intellectual, psychological, and social benefits. We’ve witnessed these benefits at our own Kansas Avenue Learning Garden, where kids love getting their hands dirty while they learn. And teachers report that garden learning is a great compliment to their classroom curriculum.

In 2017, we gave away $7,500 in grants to schools throughout Central Oregon – and now our “Garden for Every School” vision is becoming a reality! With your support, we gave more teachers and students access to garden learning, for hands-on experience, fruit and vegetable tastings, and enhanced science lessons about food, native and pollinator plants, ecosystems, and more.

Last year was a great start. But demand was double what we had available—local teachers and schools requested $14,000 in support.

Our goal this summer is to grow our School Garden Grant Fund to $12,500. In addition to community support, we will be pursuing foundation grants to help grow our grant fund. The money raised during this campaign will go directly to the School Garden Grant fund for 2018-2019.

Our goal…

  • Donors like you: $7,500
  • Foundation grants: $5,000
