We are looking for a Bilingual Youth Education Program Coordinator (YEPC) to join our team! Applications are due January 10, 2025. This is an abbreviated summary of the role; please view the full job announcement here.

SUMMARY OF THE POSITION:

The Bilingual Youth Education Program Coordinator (YEPC) delivers sustainability education to youth, including Spanish-speaking youth, in classrooms, school gardens, and outdoor environments in Central Oregon. This position plays a key role in engaging Spanish-speaking youth, families, and community members. Additionally, this position will support the development of a bilingual Learning Garden in Redmond.
Hiring a bilingual youth educator to work with Spanish-speaking youth and families is new for TEC. We know that there will be a learning curve as we develop and strengthen our ability to both offer more programs to Spanish speaking youth, and to support a staff member in this role. We expect that the person hired will spend the first year learning, experimenting, and building relationships. Both TEC and the candidate will need to be open-minded to adaptation and feedback as we refine our programs to fit the needs of Spanish-speaking youth and families. We are happy to discuss this further with candidates during the interview process.

Type of Position: Full time, non-exempt, 32-36 hours/week.

Expected start date: Mid to late February, 2025

Reports to: This position reports to the Youth Education Program Manager (YEPM) and regularly collaborates with other members of the youth education garden team, including the Garden for Every School Program Manager (GFES PM).

Supervisory Responsibilities:This position occasionally supports youth education and garden volunteers and interns.

About The Environmental Center (TEC) :

The Environmental Center (TEC) is located at 16 NW Kansas Ave. Our team consists of 16 staff and 10 directors. Our facility in downtown Bend offers a casual, open workplace with a kitchen, community meeting rooms, and outdoor garden spaces. We operate as a hybrid workplace that offers employees the flexibility to work at the office, out in the community, and remotely (at home or other locations) to successfully achieve the roles and responsibilities outlined for each position, recognizing that some roles require more in-person and/or office time than others. This position requires significant time delivering programs across Bend, Redmond, Prineville, and Madras, and therefore the opportunity for remote work is limited to administrative and planning time. Because we are a place-based organization, the person in this position will need to reside in the Central Oregon region.

  • Facilitate year-round engaging, culturally meaningful, and hands-on sustainability education for Central Oregon youth, in both Spanish and English languages.
  • Conduct outreach and build relationships that allow The Environmental Center (TEC) to effectively partner and engage with Spanish speakers in the community.
  • Collaborate and communicate with teammates and community partners so that programs are well organized and effective.
In addition, each TEC staff member is asked to:
    •  Create an annual work plan to achieve your goals, consistent with TEC’s strategic plan.
    • Identify and work towards your annual growth and development goals.
    •  Participate in and put into practice TEC’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
(DEI) – which includes but is not limited to engaging in individual and team learning opportunities and attending/supporting community events and programs hosted by other organizations.
    •  Represent and uphold TEC’s values and commitments.
