Kansas Avenue Learning Garden to Host Spring Garden Build
Bend, Oregon – The Kansas Ave Learning Garden kicks off their 3rd growing season with a Spring Garden Build, March 28 – 30, 2013.
The goal of the Kansas Avenue Learning Garden is to embed sustainability in local schools by providing students regular access to learning garden through which they can learn first-hand the connection between food and the environment through integrated academics and direct experience in the garden.
“The Learning Garden has been a real community supported project, with donations from many local businesses and well over 500 hours of volunteer hours put into the garden through education, maintenance or work parties”, said Denise Rowcroft, Garden Coordinator. “People see the garden as a community asset and want to help it succeed.”
The Environmental Center is holding a Spring Garden Build in the Kansas Ave Learning Garden Thursday March 28th – Saturday March 30th. Community members are invited to come down anytime between 10am – 2pm to put in a couple hours helping get the garden going for spring school programming. Projects include completing the greenhouse and reclaimed fence, building new garden beds, and cleaning up the garden. Families are welcome, and no experience is necessary
