Recycle Right for America Recycles Day

The Environmental Center’s Rethink Waste Project is asking Central Oregonians to join people from across the country to celebrate America Recycles Day, coming up on November 15th, the only nationally recognized day dedicated to promoting and celebrating recycling in the United States.

“Most people recycle already, now we just need to focus on what we do recycle here, and what we don’t, so that we can move our community towards recycling right. When we put garbage in our recycling it contaminates the load and leads to problems down the line. Also, when people know exactly what items are recyclable or not, they can make more informed purchasing decisions at the store,” says Rethink Waste Project Educator, Denise Rowcroft. “To help people recycle right, we developed easy to read signs that people can use in their home, office and community centers to educate about not just what goes in the recycling bin, but equally important, what doesn’t.”

These free signs can be downloaded here, and include a sign for Recycling, Composting and Trash.NEW HOME ZWS sign RECYCLE - sm

“Keep America Beautiful proudly supports the Rethink Waste Project and commends their efforts to promote recycling in Deschutes County.  Recyclable items we use every day, like that cereal box and milk jug in the morning- are recoverable resources that can be manufactured into new and valuable products. Together, we can reduce the billions of dollars’ worth of material thrown away each year and work to give that “garbage” another life through recycling.”
