Local Students Tour the Landfill

Dec 11, 2015 -

The Environmental Center, in partnership with Deschutes County Solid Waste, has delivered waste education to fourth and fifth graders in Deschutes County via the EarthSmart series since 1998.

This year, we have 14 classes from Bend La Pine and Redmond Schools including Tom McCall Elementary, Jewell Elementary, Buckingham Elementary, High Lakes Elementary, Silver Rail Elementary, and Cascades Academy of Central Oregon. Each class receives six classroom lessons that focus on natural resources, waste reduction, worm composting, food choices and the eco-footprint concept.

The classes visit the landfill to experience what happens to our trash and recycling. The media is welcome to join us for a landfill tour on January 5, 12, 19, 26 and February 2 from 9:45 AM to 11 AM. Please contact Kirin Stryker at 541-385-6908 ex. 16 or kirin@envirocenter.org to arrange.
