The first SuperForum—Shaping the Future of Central Oregon, presented by Bend 2030 and programming sponsor the City Club of Central Oregon, welcomes Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber and First Lady Cylvia Hayes as the keynote speakers to discuss how Central Oregon can attain “prosperity with a view” and balance growth with livability in an exciting, interactive and informative evening.

This event will take place on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014 at 7 p.m. at the Tower Theatre, with doors opening at 6:15 p.m.

After the most difficult economic downturn in decades, Bend is bouncing back. Our housing industry is rebounding, we have one of the top job growth rates in Oregon, and one of the highest rates of tech company start-ups among small cities in the nation. Visitors keep coming to Bend—but what will keep our economy from crashing again?

Can we prosper and be as livable as ever—all at the same time? Central Oregon’s first SuperForum, where we take a good look at our area’s future, will address these difficult questions head on.

An unprecedented third-term Oregon Governor, Kitzhaber is motivated by his commitment to provide equity and opportunity for all, to secure jobs with upward income mobility, and to ensure safe communities where people have a sense of common purpose. He and First Lady Cylvia Hayes (a part-time Bend resident) will discuss their insights for Central Oregon in this SuperForum.

We’re honored and excited to welcome Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber and First Lady Cylvia Hayes as keynote speakers,” SuperForum Committee Chair Lawrence Schechter said. “Their interactive exchange will provide a larger perspective of the challenges and opportunities of balancing growth with livability—within the larger context of the state and the unique opportunities in Bend and Central Oregon.”

The SuperForum will also offer a snapshot of Bend 2030 Vision Accelerator Projects that are making a difference in our community, real-time audience electronic polling, and an opportunity to continue the conversation post-event. “In the spirit of encouraging citizen conversation in the greater Bend community, City Club of Central Oregon is honored to be working with Bend 2030,” said Eli Ashley, SuperForum moderator and past City Club Board President. “This SuperForum promises to be a thought-provoking and entertaining way to consider some of the critical issues facing our collective future.”

General admission is $20 and tickets are available through the Tower Theatre box office at 835 NW Wall St., by phone at 541-317-0700, or online at towertheatre.org. A limited number of scholarships is available for students and those on a fixed income.
