SUMMARY:Listen & Envision: Bend Vision Project Community Workshop
DESCRIPTION:At the virtual ‘Listen & Envision’ workshop\, Bend residents will discuss community values\, challenges\, and ways to make Bend a better place. \n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\n\nWe have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to stand up for the greater Bend area. With input and support from community members and partners\, the Envision Bend nonprofit organization is overseeing an inclusive process to craft an Action Plan to make Bend a great place for all. \nWe want to make sure the Action Plan is bold and visionary — and that it represents the priorities of people in the community. This five-year Action Plan will include a vision statement\, strategies\, projects\, and programs\, as well as lead partnering organizations to see the work to fruition. The Action Plan is scheduled to be completed and released to the community in 2023. \nCommunity input is vital to the Action Plan. As part of what is known as the Bend Vision Project\, the Envision Bend organization is hosting a series of virtual “Listen & Envision” workshops to gather input on community challenges and solutions from residents\, so that local priorities can be reflected in the plan. We want to make sure that the plan tackles the most pressing challenges and delivers for all of those who call the greater Bend area home. \nJoin a virtual event and have your voice heard. During the 1.5-hour virtual workshop\, you will hear about the Bend Vision Project’s planning process and you will have the opportunity to provide input about the future of the community. This will be the first in-person Repair Café in Central Oregon since 2020. These free events connect people with broken stuff to people who like to fix stuff – they’re all about repairing things (together). Grace has been researching best practices for rural energy planning and leading the development of a toolkit to help communities create baseline energy inventories along with a group of OSU-Cascades interns. Come learn about her work and how it will shape conversations about the future of energy in Deschutes County.  \nMeet our speaker \nGrace Andrews\, Energy Program Coordinator\, The Environmental Center. Grace is an AmeriCorps member with Resource Assistance for Rural Environments (RARE)\, a program that increases capacity for communities across Oregon to tackle community-based projects. She recently graduated from Colby College with a B.A. in Environmental Science\, where she enjoyed working with the writing center and the outdoor orientation program for first year students. She is excited to be in Central Oregon and explore the beauty it has to offer. The program will include an in-depth viewing experience of the Sun with the observatory staff. Additional telescopes will be available for viewing using special filters.
