SUMMARY:Weekend For Water
DESCRIPTION:Water is life\, and Oregonians consistently rank it as their top environmental priority. Oregon has more rivers designated as wild and scenic than any other state. People travel from across the nation to raft our wild waters and fish for salmon or trout. Our thriving agricultural industry depends on clean and plentiful water\, as do our wildlife\, cities\, industries\, and everyone who lives here. Yet our waterways (rivers\, lakes\, and wetlands) are at risk. \nYou can make a difference. Take your friends for a pint at a local brewery on January 30th or 31st on the Weekend for Water. A portion of proceeds will go to support watershed protection and the water quality required for crafting exceptional Oregon beer.  \nHOSTED BY\nOregon Environmental Council and Oregon Brewshed Alliance/Oregon Wild \nAsk for details at these participating breweries: \nArch Rock Brewing (Gold Beach)\nCulmination Brewing (Portland)\nCascade Brewing Company (Portland)\nGigantic Brewing Company (Portland)\nMcMenamins Brewing (All of Oregon) – @ Old St. Francis School\, $1 of every pint and growler of Hammerhead Ale will be donated \nNinkasi Brewing Company (Eugene) – Ninkasi is participating on January 28\nOakshire Brewing Company (Eugene)\nLaurelwood Brewing (Portland)\nStanding Stone Brewing Company (Ashland)\nUptown Market (Lake Oswego)\nWidmer Brothers (Portland)\nWorthy Brewing (Bend) – $1 per pint will be donated

SUMMARY:Support Outdoor School For All
DESCRIPTION:Come find out how you can be a part of saving outdoor school for all 5th/6th graders in Oregon! We need your signature on State Bill 439 to get to the ballot in November so the state will fully fund every 5th/6th grader to attend a weeklong outdoor school program. 10\,000 signatures are needed just in Central Oregon alone\, and you can help be a part of this movement. \nWhen: Monday\, February 1st (see time slots below)\nWhere: Bend Library downtown (in the Brooks Room)\nFree of charge; this will be a quick info session with time to ask questions\, sign the petition\, and to be trained on becoming a signature gatherer for the near future if interested \nVolunteers are needed to help within the next 5 months to gather these signatures. You can also support this movement by simply signing the bill yourself at the event; make sure you are registered to vote in the state of Oregon and know the address in which you used to register. \nThere will be a quick 10-15 minute training talk for those willing to be a part of the volunteer crew to gather signatures (which will be spoken about in more detail) along with a quick informational session about Bill 439 and the Outdoor School For All coalition. We will hold two 30 minute sessions. See below for time slots and come by the Brooks Room at the downtown library to learn how you can be a part of saving such a meaningful and wonderful opportunity for the youth of Oregon. \nBoth sessions will be exactly the same. Choose the time that works best for you! Bring a friend or two as well. Ask for the Brooks Room when you enter the library.  \nSession 1: 5:00-5:30\nSession 2: 5:30-6:00 \nYou can invite and/or bring friends as well! If you have any questions\, contact me\, Becca Gilbert 502-876-3888 or becca.gilbert24@gmail.com.

SUMMARY:Facing Climate Change
DESCRIPTION:The apocalyptic story of the current climate crisis is nothing new. What is new is the research emerging on why we have failed to act. Social psychologists have recently identified some of the reasons behind the inertia caused by fear\, guilt\, anger\, despair and helplessness. These are the emotions experienced by the very individuals ⎯you and I⎯ in whose hands it lies to make the necessary changes that will enrich our lives\, make us more resilient\, restore self-‐identity\, strengthen our communities\, and ensure a livable planet both for ourselves and our more-‐than-‐human relatives. Join us on Monday nights to share and contribute towards this critical shift in consciousness. \nBased on Living Systems Theory\, “The Work That Reconnects\,” Deep Ecology and ancient spiritual traditions\, the class is guided by long-‐time activist/filmmaker/yoga instructor\, Vanessa Schulz.

SUMMARY:How Much Inequality is Acceptable?
DESCRIPTION:Some economists have recently suggested that Americans are now living with the largest income gap in the history of the world.  This conversation will explore our beliefs and values around income inequality. Is it an incentive for hard work and invention\, an acceptable part of community life\, or does this narrative no longer make sense? At what point\, if ever\, is the gap too large?  Julia Hammond\, owner of Folklala and Oregon Humanities’ Conversation Project Leader\, will lead a conversation around these questions. \nWhere: Wille Hall\, Coats Campus Center\, COCC Campus \nCheck out a full schedule of events for COCC’s Season of Nonviolence – Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King\, Jr.\, Mahatma Gandhi\, Cesar Chavez\, and Chief Wilma Mankiller.
