She and nine fellow DeWolf descendants set off to retrace the Triangle Trade: from their old hometown in Rhode Island to slave forts in Ghana to sugar plantation ruins in Cuba. Step by step\, they uncover the vast extent of Northern complicity in slavery while also stumbling through the minefield of contemporary race relations.  Featured by PBS on POV\, Documentaries with a Point of view. \nTom DeWolf\, a Bendite\, author of Inheriting the Trade and Gather at the Table\, and one of the descendants featured in the film\, will answer questions about the film.  He will introduce Coming to the Table\, an organization dedicated to healing racial wounds of the past.

New members\, we want to meet YOU! \nThis year we’ve initiated a Holiday nonperishable Food Drive to help Central Oregon families in need. \nBring one or more canned or nonperishable nutritious food items to help stamp out hunger.  According to the USDA\, Oregon is one of the five hungriest states nationally\, and local food banks have trouble keeping enough on their shelves this time of year.  Your compassionate donations will be distributed to area food banks. \nLocal duo NTT (“entity”) is back!  Kevin and Debby will play a selection of lively favorites and Holiday tunes\, where guitar\, flute\, percussion and voice blend into their unique harmony. Really wonderful entertainment! \nSlides of recent hikes and camp outs will loop during the evening\, and we’ll share a brief overview of 2017 programs and aspirations. \nNew Membership forms will be available\, just $15.  If you’re not a member\, won’t you consider joining?  We need a strong\, powerful Sierra Club nationally\, statewide and locally for the uncertain and challenging days ahead under a Trump administration.  Contribute what you can to a donation jar for Oregon Sierra Club’s Political Action Committee (PAC) to strengthen our state and local political program supporting strong environmental candidates and to fight threats to existing clean air and water\, climate and other guardian laws we’ve worked so hard to implement. \nBring a friend\, come share an evening with like-minded nature and planet protectors!

SUMMARY:Green Team Movie Night: Vanishing of the Bees
DESCRIPTION:From http://www.vanishingbees.com/synopsis/  \nHoneybees have been mysteriously disappearing across the planet\, literally vanishing from their hives. \nKnown as Colony Collapse Disorder\, this phenomenon has brought beekeepers to crisis in an industry responsible for producing apples\, broccoli\, watermelon\, onions\, cherries and a hundred other fruits and vegetables. Commercial honeybee operations pollinate crops that make up one out of every three bites of food on our tables. \nVanishing of the Bees follows commercial beekeepers David Hackenberg and Dave Mendes as they strive to keep their bees healthy and fulfill pollination contracts across the U.S. The film explores the struggles they face as the two friends plead their case on Capital Hill and travel across the Pacific Ocean in the quest to protect their honeybees. \nFilming across the US\, in Europe\, Australia and Asia\, this documentary examines the alarming disappearance of honeybees and the greater meaning it holds about the relationship between mankind and mother earth. As scientists puzzle over the cause\, organic beekeepers indicate alternative reasons for this tragic loss. Conflicting options abound and after years of research\, a definitive answer has not been found to this harrowing mystery. \nThe film is narrated by Ellen Page.
