SUMMARY:2019 Salmon Run
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the 31st Annual Salmon Run\nThe Environmental Center is the Salmon Run beneficiary!\nKick off the 2019 race season with a true Bend tradition. One of the first half marathons of the year in the Northwest\, it has long been central to the local racing scene. Because of its early-season timing\, it is also the quintessential race for runners looking to build a base for future races. \nEach year\, the mighty Salmon make an expedition of a lifetime back to their homes – traversing thousands of miles and overcoming countless obstacles on their river journeys. The Salmon juxtapose the infinite space of their ocean homes against the micro-streams of their birth in one monumental run. Their achievement is awesome in the true sense of the word. \nIn much the same way\, the Salmon Run is a “homecoming” to the countless number of runners who return year after year to run this beautiful course. The completion of this race is an achievement that is nothing short of awesome. \nChoose to race a 5K\, 10K\, Half Marathon. Learn more and sign up today: https://bendraces.com/salmon-run/ \nVOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR THIS EVENT. SUMMARY:UP North Loop Talks
DESCRIPTION:Imagine walking out your front door one day in May and not coming back until early November\, covering more than 2\,600 miles on foot between those two days. \nThat’s just what Ras and Kathy Vaughn did last year when they embarked on a journey through the Pacific Northwest\, stitching together portions of several long trails in order to create one massive loop hike. \nRas and Kathy – also known as Team UltraPedestrian – were the first people to ground-truth a possible cross-country connection between the Idaho Centennial Trail and the Oregon Desert Trail\, a route which also includes extensive cross-country travel. With a bit of shimmying through canyons and a few twists and turns\, they made it work. \nThis adventurous thru-hiking duo will be presenting near you soon: \nUP North Loop Talks \n\nApril 11\, 7 p.m. | Footzone\, Bend\, OR\nApril 24\, 7 p.m. | Mountain Supply\, Bend\, OR\nMay 7\, 6 p.m. | Deschutes Public Library\, Downtown Bend\, OR

SUMMARY:Youth Unstoppable\, a documentary
DESCRIPTION:At age 15\, filmmaker Slater Jewell-Kemker began attending environmental summits\, camera in hand\, wide-eyed and ready to make a difference. What began as a single journey evolved into an intimate and challenging documentary shot behind the front lines of the largely unseen and misunderstood global youth climate movement. Seen through the lens of Slater’s camera\, Youth Unstoppable documents the struggles\, events\, and first hand effects on the youth fighting to be heard at home and within the frustrating and complex process of UN Climate Change negotiations. Youth Unstoppable shows us a powerful vision for the future of our planet and the young people who will lead us there. \nTickets can be purchased here.
