SUMMARY:"Love Thy Nature" Screening
DESCRIPTION:The Waldorf School of Bend  is excited to be hosting a screening of “Love Thy Nature” (http://www.lovethynature.com/) film documentary here in Bend for one night only. We would love your help in getting the word out about this film! \n A little bit about this film: \n“Visually stunning and deeply provocative\, Sylvie Rokab’s documentary Love Thy Nature deftly challenges the age-old notion that we\, as a species\, enjoy full dominion over the Earth and its creatures to use (and abuse) for our comfort and pleasure. Through a rich kaleidoscope touching on science\, technology\, medicine\, spirituality\, and sustainability\, the film explores our relationship with animals\, ecosystems\, and each other. \nEmploying testimony from a wide swath of experts\, Rokab flips over every stone and gently focuses the lens inward\, encouraging a self-view that we are nature\, not her master. Seducing viewers with exceptional production quality\, riveting cinematography\, and narration by Liam Neeson as the character Sapiens (mankind)\, Rokab’s message is one of hope rather than blame. We can learn from the natural world and help the planet right itself\, even amid the destruction fueled by global warming\, factory farming\, and other ills of the industrial age. Rokab hopes everyone who sees the film will feel inclined to go outside and enjoy nature\, both for personal health and a symbiotic relationship that can also benefit the planet in the long run. Rokab sums it up saying\, “It’s about making people realize their need for nature and awaken them to the realization by needing nature\, by loving nature\, by connecting with nature\, they have a personal benefit from it\, and absolutely they would be inclined to want to protect it.” \nThe Waldorf School is deeply committed to the stewardship of our environment and as part of our core values we cultivate reverence for nature and an appreciation of beauty in our world. This film is part of our Earth Day event series which includes our participation in Bee Scene in Bend ( https://www.facebook.com/BeeSceneInBend?fref=ts)\, our participation in the Earth Day Fair at the Environmental Center and the film screening. \nBelow is the event link with all the information about the film\, date and ticket prices.  The school will receive 5% of the proceeds from ticket sales which is going directly to our community garden and natural playscape fund.

SUMMARY:Lookout Mountain Hike
DESCRIPTION:Sign up now for a moderate to strenuous hike up Lookout Mountain on Sunday\, July 10th with Central Oregon Landwatch. This will be a beautiful hike with scenic views of Big Summit Prairie and stunning views of the Cascades.  If it’s a clear day we might see Snow Mountain and the Strawberry Mountains to the east. \nAmy Stuart (former Deschutes Watershed Manager) and Greg Jackle (Ochoco District Wildlife Biologist) will guide us and share their expertise in wildlife issues and lead discussions on how the Off-Highway Vehicle trail proposal in the Ochocos could impact deer\, elk\, and redband trout. In addition to our hike leaders\, our board president “The Nathan” will be along to increase the fun factor and help us identify birds and their songs. \nThis is rated as a MODERATE to STRENUOUS hike\, approximately 4.5 miles in distance with an elevation gain of 1\,220 feet. The summit is 6926 ft of elevation. We will be bush whacking out across open country and meadows and through a few stringer stands to avoid all the blow down that fire crews haven’t been able to get to this year. \nSign up here \nWhen: Meet in Bend for carpool at 7:30am Sunday\, July 10th\, return by mid-afternoon (more details for registrants)\nWhere: Lookout Mountain in the Ochoco National Forest\nHow: Sign up here\nWhy: Get out in nature with us and learn more about our programs!
