SUMMARY:Reframing the Urban Growth Debate
DESCRIPTION:SAVE THE DATE \n Reframing the Urban Growth Debate\, a presentation by Eben Fodor\, a professional community planning consultant.  \nThe current process of planning the Urban Growth Boundary will determine what kind of city Bend will become. This presentation by Eben Fodor will raise the bar for local dialogue on this topic by providing the best available information and data sources regarding planning and land use matters. It will challenge us to think critically and constructively when evaluating the common mythology that “all urban growth is good\,” and inform Bend’s decisions about how and where to grow without sacrificing our quality of life. \nWhere are You on the Growth Spectrum?\n(Quiz from Better\, Not Bigger by Eben Fodor) \n1) How much more traffic congestion would you like in your community? \na) There is already plenty of traffic\, thanks\nb) Just a little bit more\, please\nc) A whole lot more \n2) How much more air and water pollution would you prefer?\na) We have too much already\nb) Just a little more pollution\, please\nc) Give me toxic soup! \n3) How much more farmland and open space do you want to be developed?\na) It would be nice if we could save what we have left\nb) I suppose we have to sacrifice this land in the name of ‘progress’\nc) I can’t bear the sight of undeveloped land going to waste \n4) How much higher do you want your taxes to go?\na) For what I’m getting\, I think I’m paying enough already\nb) I’m happy to pay more\, even if I can’t see any benefits \n5) How much more of your local natural resources (fresh water\, electric power supply\, forests\, aggregate and minerals) do you want consumed?\na) I’d like to conserve our natural resources and use them as efficiently as possible\nb) We have to sacrifice our resources to create prosperity\nc) We should sell all our natural resources for a quick buck \nIf you answered “A” to one or more of these questions\, “Reframing the Urban Growth Debate” is for you!  \nPlease join us for a presentation by Eben Fodor\, author of Better\, Not Bigger – How To Take Control of Urban Growth and Improve Your Community.
