DESCRIPTION:Join us in our Kansas Avenue Learning Garden for our ongoing volunteer work party series. In 2022\, volunteers contributed over 200 hours to help keep our learning garden maintained over the growing season. We couldn’t do it without you! \nThis event is open to all ages and gardening abilities! No experience or tools required. Beer and non-alcoholic beverages are provided for all who volunteer. Each event includes seasonal ongoing tasks as well as special projects as needed throughout the growing season. Volunteers are welcome to pop in for an hour or stay the whole time. No need to RSVP or commit ahead of time. (Pro tip – put the following dates in your phone calendar now – then when it pops up you can decide if it works out for you or not!) \nIn 2023\, Happy Hour in the Garden will once again run twice a month from March through October. DESCRIPTION:The Ochoco Campout is just a few weeks away—a weekend in the heart of the Ochoco National Forest!  Experience the stillness of a ponderosa hillside\, forest scents\, a gurgling creek\, the starry night-time sky. Hey\, it’s time for a Nature recharge. \nFriday evening we’ll have a brief welcome and orientation.  Saturday offers different levels of hikes\, including at least one to the top of iconic Lookout Mountain. That evening is a potluck group dinner in the Pavilion\, a talk on the Ochoco Mountains area history and Juniper Group’s forest conservation work. \nRegistration is now open.  Suggested donation is $22/person for the weekend to cover campground\, food\, equipment and expenses. DESCRIPTION:Devil’s Garden is a rugged landscape of lava interspersed with sagebrush and wildflowers\, which provides important wildlife habitat. Species like the American pika find cool refuge in lava flows at lower elevations than they are typically found and sightings have been reported around Devil’s Garden. Join OSU Cascades Natural Resources Professor Matt Shinderman on a hike to discover the importance of these desert habitats and learn about local wildlife. \nDifficulty: Moderate – about 3 miles. The trail is rocky in places\, with some scrambling over smooth lava rocks. In 2022\, volunteers contributed over 200 hours to help keep our learning garden maintained over the growing season. We couldn’t do it without you! \nThis event is open to all ages and gardening abilities! No experience or tools required. Beer and non-alcoholic beverages are provided for all who volunteer. Each event includes seasonal ongoing tasks as well as special projects as needed throughout the growing season. Volunteers are welcome to pop in for an hour or stay the whole time. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a fun Green Drinks this summer\, hosted by Stemach Design + Architecture\, featuring Bend Area Habitat for Humanity and ReStore. \nStemach Design + Architecture\, located in the Box Factory in downtown Bend\, is dedicated to projects that embody careful\, coordinated design with a positive impact to each project’s surroundings. Owners Stacey and Rachel Stemach\, along with the entire team\, are dedicated to economic\, environmental and equitable sustainability. You’re probably familiar with the firm’s impressive work around Central Oregon – including Spoken Moto\, Immersion Brewing\, 10 Barrel\, The Bite (in Tumalo)\, and the ReStore. \nBend Area Habitat for Humanity is dedicated to building affordable homes for income challenged families and individuals in Bend. Bend Habitat also operates ReStore\, a home improvement resale center that sells building materials\, furniture and appliances to the community. The ReStore offers a great place for the community to donate their items\, keeping more than 3.6 tons from the landfill each year. Proceeds from ReStore directly benefit Bend Area Habitat. (In fact\, ReStore covers 100% of Bend Habitat’s operating expenses!) Two years ago\, with the help of generous sponsors\, Bend Habitat was able to install a large solar system on the ReStore. And currently\, they’re expanding to create an even better experience for the community \nJoin us for an evening of mingling and learning in a really neat\, new space (which\, fun fact\, was designed by Stemach!) – and we have a feeling you’ll walk away with an appreciation for thoughtful\, sustainable design. \nPLEASE REGISTER IN ADVANCE.\n

DESCRIPTION:When:  Thursday Aug 11\, Tuesday Aug 16\, Tuesday Aug 23 and Tuesday Aug 30\, 5:15 to Dusk \nWhere:  Meet at the old Ray’s parking lot\, NE corner of Simpson Ave and Century Drive in Bend \nWorksite:  Varies \nThere’s only one thing better than mountain biking in Bend\, OR and that’s riding in Bend\, knowing that you helped build and maintain the trails you love. \nPlease bring a hydration pack with water and a snack. \nBe sure to bring appropriate layers to accommodate whatever the weather may be. \nQuestions?  contact@cotamtb.com \nAll COTA trail work events require the following safety measures: \nAll participants are required to have the following protective clothing and equipment: \n\nSturdy shoes or boots\nGloves\nEye protection with clear or light colored lens\nLong pants\n\nDue to COTA’s insurance requirements and the inherent dangers of trail work\, we must implement the following policy regarding children at work events: \n\nFor anyone 14 years of age or younger\, we require one parent\, guardian\, or responsible adult for supervision of every four kids attending any COTA trail work events.\nAll minors under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian available to sign our waiver.\n\nAnyone who arrives for a work event may be turned away if he/she cannot meet the above requirements.
