SUMMARY:Climate Change in Oregon
DESCRIPTION:We’re seeing it\, but can we stop it?\nClimate change is a global problem\, but the impacts are already being felt locally. Oregon’s farms\, forests\, oceans and water are at risk from rising temperatures and changing precipitation patterns. However\, it is not too late to solve the problem. A two-pronged approach of mitigation and adaption will be required to secure Oregon’s future in a changing climate. In this presentation\, Dello will talk about findings from a recent climate report on Oregon and the importance of connecting sound climate science with decision-making. \nKATHIE DELLO: Associate Director\, Oregon Climate Change Research Institute at OSU\nKathie Dello works in the science/policy interface and frequently consults with local\, state and federal agencies on climate and water issues. A bit of a weather nut\, she is a go-to source on all things Oregon weather and climate. Kathie maintains an active social media presence on her twitter account\, @kathiedello. Dello received her bachelor’s degree in atmospheric science and her master’s degree in geography from the University at Albany (SUNY) and soon will complete her Ph.D. in environmental sciences at OSU. \nWillie Hall\, Coats Campus Center at COCC Bend. Tickets on sale now: $10; Students free with ID card.

SUMMARY:A Vision for the Future: Oregon's Integrated Water Resources Strategy
DESCRIPTION:Changes are coming… \nAging water infrastructure\, a warming climate\, and more people moving to Oregon from warmer\, drier regions are already happening\, and more is in our future. \nFamilies\, farmers\, and fish will all be affected.  \nIn 2012\, Oregon adopted its first innovative Integrated Water Resources Strategy (IWRS). Last year\, Oregon Water Resources Department (OWRD) sought recommendations from citizens for updates to the IWRS\, including hosting an open house in Bend. The draft revised IWRS is now complete\, and OWRD is back in Bend inviting your feedback on the report. \nIf IWRS sounds wonky… \nthen think of it terms of dealing with climate change and drought\, ensuring that we have healthy ecosystems\, making sure we have adequate water for cities and agriculture\, and more. \nAs stakeholders in the future… \nwith a vested interest in how rivers and groundwater are managed\, this is our opportunity to have a say about how the state navigates water management in the Deschutes Basin and throughout Oregon. \nPlease join us to hear from OWRD staff about the draft revised Strategy and to give your feedback. Comments on the draft will be accepted through Monday\, June 19\, and later this year\, the state will adopt its next Integrated Water Resources Strategy. \nThis program is brought to you by Coalition for the Deschutes\, Trout Unlimited\, the Deschutes River Conservancy and the Deschutes Basin Board of Control. \nPlease register here.
