SUMMARY:Jr. Snow Ranger
DESCRIPTION:Discover Your Forest and Deschutes National Forest invite you to enjoy some family time in the Forest playing with your kids as they become Junior Snow Rangers. \nFrom noon to 3 p.m. on Sunday\, January 25\, February 22 and March 15\, families can attend the Deschutes National Forest and Discover Your Forest Junior Snow Ranger event at Mt. Bachelor West Village. \nOr \nFrom noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday\, February 15 at Skyliner Lodge 16125 Skyliners Road\, Bend Oregon 97701 \nThe Junior Snow Ranger event is designed for children in the 4th and 5th grade\, but activities are appropriate for 7-11 year olds.  Activities will include snowshoeing\, winter safety\, exploring snowflakes\, wildlife tracking\, winter ecology\, and the joy of winter fun.  The program mission is to inspire youth to embrace a life-long relationship with the winter environment\, and to become stewards of the land. \nIt is a family program and adults are encouraged to play with their kids.  People can stay for an hour or for the day. \nThe event is free\, but donations are greatly appreciated to support Discover Your Forest programs throughout the Deschutes National Forest. \nTo register please call Karen Gentry\, Director of Education at 541-383-4771 or karen.gentry@discovernw.org

DESCRIPTION:Last month you heard about climate change globally – too much carbon and heat in the air – and what could be done about it. Tuesday\, February 17th\, our speaker will discuss the impact of climate change on life on the ground. \nClimate Change: Response of Mountain Ecosystems\nConstance Millar\, Phd\nSenior Research Ecologist\, USFS \nOne of Dr Millar’s areas of research is on populations of pika (30 species of rabbit) which is identified as a possible early  warning system for climate change. She studies them in the eastern Sierras in the talus fields above Mono Lake  and on the mountains in Nevada. \nWhat can studies like this teach us of climate change? Come join us and find out. The Belfry\, Tuesday the 17th\, Doors at 6PM\, Lecture at 7PM.
