SUMMARY:Take Back Our Sky!
DESCRIPTION:Learn more about Chemtrails\, HAARP\, and the Full Spectrum Dominance of Planet Earth. Authur Elana Freeland’s is hosting a multi- media lecture and book signing event. \n$10 suggested donation (no one will be turned away) \nWe are entering a Space Age\, but not the kind President Kennedy originally envisioned. This Space Age is replacing the resource wars and redefining Planet Earth as a “battlespace” in accordance with the military doctrine of Full Spectrum Dominance. Thus the title of writer Elana Freeland’s book Chemtrails\, HAARP\, and the Full Spectrum Dominance of Planet Earth (Feral House\, 2014). \nFreeland is coming to town to talk about how chemtrails or aerosols and HAARP technology work together for a variety of military agendas and disaster capitalism “stealth and wealth” insider trading. This may be the most important event you will ever attend. \nWeather modification / solar radiation management (SRM) programs have been going on for years without our consent\, paid for with our tax dollars. We are breathing\, eating\, and drinking nanoparticulates of conductive heavy metals like aluminum\, barium\, and strontium\, plus polymers loaded with biological experiments. \nThis nano-scale “chaff” is killing our forests and turning our soil alkaline while our now-ionized atmosphere paves the way to “Owning the Weather” (published in Air Force 2025\, a futuristic study for the Air Force Chief of Staff\, August 1996). \nBesides moving weather systems around\, this “electrified” atmosphere avails our military and the telecommunications industry of a wireless communications-rich atmosphere for purposes far beyond cell phone convenience. \nThese reckless geoengineering programs are damaging our immune systems and setting in motion planetary changes that threaten all of life on Earth. \nMeanwhile\, government remains silent about this geoengineering fait accompli. As long as the “conspiracy theory” rubric continues to work\, this national security elephant in the living room can be written off as paranoid fantasy\, despite perceptions to the contrary\, extreme weather\, the deaths of forests and the sea\, and the rise of autoimmune illnesses. \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Leslie Gulch Public Lands Weekend Day-Hikes
DESCRIPTION:Leslie Gulch Public Lands Weekend Day-Hikes\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhen\nSep 25\, 2014 06:00 PM to\nSep 28\, 2014 03:00 PM\n\n\nWhere\nOwyhee Canyonlands\n\n\nContact Name\nMichael O’Casey\n\n\nContact Phone\n(541)-330-2638\n\n\nAdd event to calendar\nvCal\niCal\n\n\n\n\n\nBACKGROUND:\nIn the far reaches of Southeastern Oregon at the end of a wandering dirt road\, spectacular red rock formations extend skyward.  Leslie Gulch offers an array of hiking options that lead through sandy washes to panoramic amphitheaters of stone and sage.  Red-tailed hawks circle in the clear sky\, and late summer draws the last of the wildflowers out from the hillside.  Visitors usually fall in love with the entirety of the Owyhee after a day hike through one of the three main gulches in the Leslie Gulch Wilderness Study Area. \nA group hike through Juniper Gulch leaves a visitor in awe of the imprint of weather\, water and time on the volcanic ash tufts that surround the faint trail.  There are incredible lessons in geology to be found\, dating back to when volcanic activity from the Yellowstone hotspot occurred here some 15 million years ago.  The intriguing “hoodoo” formations are on full display once fully immersed in the cathedral of nearby Timber Gulch.  And the more open scramble in Dago Gulch will offer some simple slot canyoneering for anyone looking for an adventure around the next corner. \nThis secluded area is protected as an Area of Critical Environmental Concern because of the mixed terrain\, sensitive plant species and presence of the iconic California bighorn sheep.  ONDA continues to work to protect the scenic and inspirational value of this landscape for the next generation.  Please join us for a chance to learn about some of the natural history of the area. \nHERE is a Google map showing the general location of the hikes. \n\n\nEndless rock formations offer ample opportunity to explore!\n\n\nTRIP TIMELINE: \n\nThursday\, September 25th: Meet at Succor Creek State Park by 6PM to set up camp\, introduce one another\, and enjoy the evening.\nFriday\, September 26th: At 8AM we will carpool to the trailhead and enjoy an all-day journey exploring the three main hikes of Leslie Gulch.\nSaturday\, September 27th: Drive the 4WD roads to the head of Three Fingers Gulch and then hike 5 miles up and back in the Three Fingers Gulch drainage.\n\n\n\nSunday\, September 28th:  Folks have two options in the morning. The first is to enjoy a leisurely cup of coffee and pack up camp to head home. The second is to embark upon one more hike before leaving. We will take a vote as to which hike the group prefers to embark on: the summit of Three Fingers Rock\, Juniper Gulch\, or the Sheepsheads.  Arrive back at the Succor Creek State Park by 3PM to disassemble camp.\n\n\n \nTHE WORK:\nWell\, it’s more like PLAY.  For a detailed description of the first day’s hike\, read on….We’ll arrive mid-morning and begin with the longest hike into Juniper Gulch.  At 1.6 miles round-trip and 400 foot elevation gain\, it’s a straightforward stroll that follows a narrow sandy wash\, up gigantic\, overhanging cliffs.  After a slight ridge\, the trail comes to an end at an orange cliff of “honeymoon” rock. Once we reach the amphitheater there are plenty of opportunities to scramble around some of the amazing red-rock “hoodoo” formations before heading back down.  This hike is a great opportunity to see the largest herd of California bighorn sheep in the country that call this area home\, as well as many wildflowers and plant species. \nAfter returning to our cars for water and lunch we’ll head up Timber Gulch\, a moderate challenge at 1.2 miles round-trip and 350 foot elevation gain.  The canyon splits about 0.3 miles in\, and enters into an amphitheater of sheer\, pinnacle cliffs that rise more than 200 feet straight up!  This cathedral is an excellent place to rest and take in the warmth of the red rock\, while the more adventurous will find plenty of opportunities to scramble. \nOur last effort will be a more exploratory approach up Dago Gulch- 1.6 miles round trip with 190 foot elevation gain.  We’ll walk up a closed road 0.8 mile\, past the cliffs with columns and fluted green ash and try to navigate the narrow slot canyons. \nSaturday and Sunday will involve similar “work”\, but in other spectacular places. Photos from these trips are essential to spreading the word about what the Owyhee Canyonlands campaign is all about\, and are a great help in grant applications: please bring your cameras and take lots of photos to share with us and the other folks on the trip!  Other than that\, your job is to fall in love with the area\, soak it all in\, and get inspired to help us protect this area for current and future generations to enjoy! \n\nCAMP:\nSuccor Creek State Park is a primitive camping area with plenty of available sites on the western and eastern sides of Succor Creek.  Most of the areas to pitch a tent will be within a short walk to your vehicle\, and we will be convening at a central location at a picnic table for the fire and cooking.  There is one outhouse and a number of picnic tables\, but no potable water. \nThe total distance to drive one-way is 58 miles.  In good weather this road is passable to nearly every vehicle (I have seen a Honda Civic make the trip).  If you want to explore any additional roads in the Owyhee before or after our hike I would recommend a high-clearance and 4WD vehicle.  But for this easy jaunt to Leslie Gulch\, any family car will be fine. \n\nDIFFICULTY: 3 out of 5:\nPotential and likely environmental factors include exposure to heat\, mild physical exertion\, navigating narrow spots with rock\, scrambles on unstable rock surfaces.  \nPARTICIPANT RESPONSIBILITIES:\nParticipants are responsible for their own food and food preparation\, backpacking/camping gear as well as transportation to and from the trip. Sturdy off-trail ankle-high boots are recommended for this trip. \nWe see extremely variable weather in eastern Oregon; be prepared for a blustery day and/or potentially very warm temperatures during the day\, with lots of sun.  Bring a range of clothing so you would be comfortable in a range of temperatures – layering is essential!  In the case of rain\, bring rain gear and warm clothes.\nIn addition to the items recommended above\, please be sure to bring a good sun hat\, sunblock\, 2 or more quart water bottles\, sunglasses\, and sturdy hiking boots or shoes. \n\nPROVIDED BY ONDA:\nONDA will provide excellent leadership and a number of group camp items to make things more comfortable such as a few chairs\, a cook table\, and a sun/rain tarp. During the hikes I will have a large group first aid kit.  I also always carry our satellite SPOT beacon for emergency communication: there is no dependable cell phone coverage where we will be. \n\nADDITIONAL INFORMATION:\nThis trip is led by ONDA’s Wilderness Stewarship Assistant\, Michael O’Casey\, Michael@onda.org.\nGroup size is limited to 15 members.\nThis trip is offered free for members. \n\nREGISTRATION:\nAn ONDA registration application and medical form is required for this trip. Click HERE for the form.  You only need to fill this form out once per year: You can join additional 2014 trips by e-mailing the trip leader directly.  You will receive a confirmation e-mail within 10 working days of submitting your form.  The confirmation e-mail will provide information regarding which trips you are on the “participant list” for\, and which trips are full\, and therefore you have been placed on the “wait list”.  Five weeks before the start of the trip\, the trip leader will send out an RSVP to make sure everyone is still able to participate. Based on RSVPs open spaces will be backfilled with people from the wait list.  Three weeks before the trip begins\, the trip leader will send out an e-mail with additional information\, maps\, driving instructions\, car-pooling options etc. However\, if you have any questions in the meantime\, please don’t hesitate to contact the trip leader.\n\n\n\n\n\nDocument

SUMMARY:Owyhee Canyonlands Wilderness Monitoring
DESCRIPTION:Owyhee Canyonlands Wilderness Monitoring\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhen\nOct 02\, 2014 03:00 PM to\nOct 05\, 2014 12:00 PM\n\n\nWhere\nOwyhee\n\n\nContact Name\nMichael O’Casey\n\n\nContact Phone\n(541) 330-2638\n\n\nAdd event to calendar\nvCal\niCal\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBACKGROUND:\nWilderness Study Areas (WSAs) inspire us.  They remain some of the last great open places and rugged canyons in the West\, where animals have the freedom to roam and the vistas stretch on for miles.  The Vale BLM has over 22 different WSAs within the Owyhee Canyonlands- and no two more important than the Owyhee River WSA and Lookout Butte WSA near the Nevada and Idaho border.  Both of these areas tie together an expansive landscape integral to sage grouse\, pronghorn antelope\, and mule deer; and they also contain flourishing desert plant communities\, Paiute lithic scatters and breathtaking views along the Wild and Scenic West Little Owyhee River. \nThis trip will be focused on helping the BLM establish a baseline monitoring trend for the two WSAs and further south into Lands with Wilderness Character.  ONDA volunteers will accomplish this by traversing the area on foot and in their vehicles using GPS cameras to document man-made impacts on the landscape. \n\n\nA great shot of last year’s volunteers on the Owyhee Canyon Rim. Photo by Jim Davis\n\n  \nTRIP TIMELINE:\n \n\nThursday\, October 2nd: Meet at Burns Junction at 3PM Pacific Time to carpool to the campsite at Anderson Crossing.  After reaching our campsite by 5:30PM we will have dinner and then go over how to use the GPS and cameras.\nFriday\, October 3rd: Awake early and head into the backcountry by 8AM.  We will be split into two or three groups and travel north into the Owyhee River Canyon WSA.\nSaturday\, October 4th: Another early morning\, leaving the campsite by 8AM for another day of monitoring and signing- this time heading south to the Lookout Butte WSA and Lands with Wilderness Character.\nSunday\, October 5th: Finally\, a well-earned morning of rest and coffee. After breakfast we will pack up and head home.  We will reach the pavement of Highway 95 by 12PM Pacific Time so that volunteers can make the five and a half hour drive back to Bend and beyond.\n\n \nTHE WORK:\nExpect long days traveling rocky\, bone-jarring roads leading to canyon edges.  Driving is perhaps the greatest challenge we’ll face in the Owyhee country\, but up to two-mile hikes over uneven ground might be a close second.  Volunteers will have to navigate on unsigned backcountry roads using GPS and work cooperatively as a team to take pictures and collect valuable field notes for use by ONDA staff at a later date. Using GPS cameras we will document naturalness characteristics inside the Wilderness Study Area boundaries. This includes photopoint monitoring of unauthorized motor vehicle use\, dispersed campsites\, and wildlife encounters.  Volunteers will receive training on how to use GPS cameras and write pertinent field notes. Some areas will be driven to but many will involve a hike over uneven ground through sagebrush. \n\nCAMP:\nThis trip will involve car camping at dispersed/undeveloped camping areas along dirt roads in the Owyhee backcountry.  At least one night will be spent at Anderson Crossing.  Participants need to have a tent capable of handling cold temperatures\, rain\, and wind… or the ability to sleep comfortably in their own vehicles. \n\n\nA place that will not soon be forgotten!\n\n\nDIFFICULTY RATING: 3 OUT OF 5:\nThe terrain in this region isn’t very steep\, but the cross country travel through thick sagebrush and over uneven ground can be challenging and tiring. Weather can be highly variable.  Driving and camping conditions are primitive and the location is one of the most remote within the lower 48 states. \n\nPARTICIPANT RESPONSIBILITIES:\nParticipants are highly encouraged to have (or have a ride in) a high-clearance 4-wheel-drive vehicle in good working order for this trip. The vehicle should have a full-size spare tire\, towing straps/chains\, jack\, and board for the jack\, fix-a-flat\, lug wrench\, and jumper cables.   Carpooling is highly encouraged. \nDriving conditions in the Owyhee are extremely challenging.  Roads are often unmaintained\, rocky\, and rutted.  A small amount of precipitation makes the road surface slippery and creates a mud buildup that clogs wheel wells and limits travel. \nParticipants are responsible for their own food and as well as transportation to and from the trip. \nParticipants will need their own four-season tent or the ability to sleep in their cars; a sleeping pad\, sleeping bag\, cookware\, stove\, lanterns and headlamps are also required.\nSturdy off-trail ankle-high boots are recommended for this trip. \nA full packing list will be provided by the trip leader 3 weeks before the trip. \n\nPROVIDED BY ONDA:\nONDA will provide the gear for the work\, excellent guidance in the field\, and a few group camping items to make things more comfortable (chairs\, tables\, dishwashing bins\, campfire materials\, water\, shade/rain tarp\, etc) \n\nADDITIONAL INFORMATION:\nThis trip will be led by ONDA’s Wilderness Stewardship Assistant\, Michael O’Casey Michael@onda.org\nGroup size will be limited to 8 participants.\nThis trip is offered free of charge. However\, if you have any questions in the meantime\, please don’t hesitate to contact the trip leader.

SUMMARY:The Landscape and Why We Photograph It\, Indian Ford Meadow Preserve
DESCRIPTION:The digital age has provided a platform for an abundance of photographs. More images are taken daily than all those from the inception of photography as a medium of expression. There is one element of photography\, however\, that is missing: the “why” of photography. This introspective question has many layers and in this workshop we will explore a few of them in regards to landscape photography. In a sense\, we will be exploring the “landscape of why.” \nWhy are certain pieces of equipment essential? Why does one choose landscape photography over other subjects? Why do some images evoke emotional response while others don’t? Why (or where) does personal vision play an important role? Why (or when) are photographic guidelines discarded? Participants in this workshop are welcome regardless of expertise however\, there is one criterion that is a must: curiosity. egistration opens 1 month prior to the event. \nRegistration is required \n– See more here

SUMMARY:Disruption: Climate Change Film
DESCRIPTION:DISRUPTION:  CLIMATE.  CHANGE\, the film takes us behind the scenes of the efforts to organize the largest climate rally in the history of the planet during the UN world Climate Summit—the story of our unique moment in history. It will look at the science\, the broken political process\, industry special interests\, and the imperative need to leave fossil fuels underground.  We are living through an age of tipping points and rapid social and planetary change. We’re the first generation to feel the impacts of climate disruption\, and the last generation that can do something about it. The film enlarges the issue beyond climate impacts and makes a compelling call for bold action that is strong enough to tip the balance to build a clean energy future. \n6:30 gathering and snacks\, 7:00 program.
