SUMMARY:Beekeeping for Beginners Course
DESCRIPTION:Over a series of 3 evenings (7-9 PM PST on February 17th\, February 22nd\, and February 24th) instructors from the Central Oregon Beekeepers Association will provide information\, techniques\, and food for thought to get you on the road for a successful season of Beekeeping in Central Oregon. The classes will be held online\, over Zoom. We will also be hosting a field day for attendees in late March. \nTopics to be covered: Bee Biology\, Woodenware/Set up/Location\, Tools/Protection\, Colony\,\nInspection\, Disease and Pests\, Acquiring and Installing a colony\, Important Timelines \nRegistration is $20 for non-members (which includes a one-year membership to COBKA) and is\nfree for members. \nThis seminar will be primarily aimed at the beginner beekeeper\, however anyone who has interest may attend. With concerns about honey bee populations and pollinators\, this class is perfect for anyone that wants to get into beekeeping as a hobby\, as a serious enthusiast\, or as an educated consumer who simply wants to learn more about where honey comes from. While serious beekeepers spend years learning their craft\, the COBKA bee school is a great chance to learn a lot of information in a short period of time.

SUMMARY:Journey of the Drum-Celebration of the Griot
DESCRIPTION:In recognition of Black History Month during February 2022\, COCC is honored to welcome speakers and programs that highlight Black triumph. Celebrate the past and present triumphs of the Black community while continuing our efforts to challenge oppressive systems and strive toward a more equitable future. \n \nTraditionally\, a Griot is a West African historian\, storyteller\, praise singer\, poet\, or musician. The Griot is a repository or oral tradition and is often seen as a leader due to their position as an advisor to royal personages. \nDuring the event\, there will be a brief presentation by Marcus LeGrand of the Mande societies and how they served as the history books and preserved their history through songs. \nFode will showcase his traditional West African instrumental skills and lead an interactive drum circle after his performance. If you have a drum you would like to use COCC encourages you to bring it for the interactive portion of the event.
