People across the country will be marching to protest the ongoing attacks on womxn’s reproductive rights and healthcare. \nIn addition to a solidarity march there will be speeches from community members and organizations present with valuable information/resources to access in our area. \nNO Islamophobic signs saying “American Taliban\,”. What is being protested has nothing to do with the war on terror. Also guests should remember that trans men\, non-binary people and more LGBTQ+ can get pregnant and can have an abortion\, meaning that this is an LGBTQ+ issue just as much as a women’s issue. No transphobia allowed. \nPlease wear a mask and social distance.

SUMMARY:Fifth Annual Go Clean Energy Conference
DESCRIPTION:The Fifth Annual Go Clean Energy Conference is a free virtual event on Oct 5-7 offering people pathways to cost savings and innovative sustainable practices to enhance their daily lives\, professions and communities. 350 Deschutes\, a nonprofit focusing on climate education\, policy and actions\, coordinates this event to provide how-to\, and funding guidance to help  individuals\, businesses\, and government staff participate in the clean economy.  In 10 sessions (noon-5 pm)\, more than 30 speakers will focus on solar energy\, energy efficiency\, electric vehicles\, transportation and fleet electrification\, policy tools for leaders\, and business contract procurement and sustainability. \nParticipants will use the online platform Zoom to hear from local and national specialists to help implement actions at home\, in the workplace and in their region. They can interact with speakers and participants to take advantage of  innovation\, technology and policy advancements in a variety of topics.

DESCRIPTION:We know a lot of gardens were unused during the Covid-19 school closures\, and as a result are in need of some love. So we’re partnering with local experts to bring you a workshop focusing on soil health for school gardens. \nWe’ll cover: \n\n4 principles to creating and maintaining soil health\nFun ways to engage your students\nNative and pollinator plants for our region\nHands on soil amendment work at the Step Up school garden\, just 2 blocks from the meeting space.\n\nEducators will also receive: \n\n$50 visa gift card (we know your busy\, thanks for coming)\n$250 towards soil amendment supplies for their school (1 per school\, potential for covering cost of delivery of bulk compost to school as well)\nFollow up assistance and logistics  securing volunteers to spread bulk compost at school site if needed.\nDinner and kombucha\nRegionally specific handouts\, and more\n\nWe know schools and districts have different schedules and that some of you can’t make the chosen date and time. Please RSVP if you are interested anyway\, as we will come up with a virtual alternative. \nEmail Denise to get added to the email list to stay in the loop for the next Garden Educator Network regional gatherings.

DESCRIPTION:In these changing times and with more time being spent on virtual platforms\, we recognize that finding the time to engage in full day training is not always possible\, so we are offering a series of “Bite Sized” Professional Development opportunities. These virtual training sessions will address individual topics\, and highlight how your teaching can align with Oregon’s Senate Bill 13: Tribal History/Shared History and Washington’s Since Time Immemorial. \nIn this session\, we are not going to talk about that fateful dinner called Thanksgiving. The discussion will be focused around The Wampanoags: The People who Met the Pilgrims: A perspective of power and partnership (for grades K-2)\, and how you as an educator can learn from their experience developing this curriculum\, and be a part of challenging history and stereotypes about Indigenous peoples. \nTwo sessions available\, content will be the same for each session: Wednesday 10/13/2021 or Wednesday 10/20/2021. DESCRIPTION:Would you know what to do if you were injured while exploring the desert? \nIn April 2019\, Oregon Desert Trail thru-hiker Stacy Boone sustained a debilitating injury in the Owyhee region. In the summer of that same year\, long-distance biker Tomas Quinones came to the aid of an unconscious man while he was bikepacking through the Greater Hart-Sheldon. To help you learn from their experiences\, Oregon Desert Trail Coordinator Renee Patrick will facilitate a conversation between these two desert explorers\, highlighting two sides of search and rescue efforts.

DESCRIPTION:Join OGS|PDX for a student-led discussion on climate futures and resilience. Students are demanding climate action in Portland and beyond. They are feeling the effects of climate change very deeply as it rapidly unfolds before their eyes. Join us for a lively discussion with local Oregon high school students from PPS\, Forest Grove\, and other districts to hear their thoughts about the urgent need to fix the climate. They will discuss how climate change is currently affecting them and what they think the solutions are from their perspective. Those of us in the field will have the ability to ask them questions and they in turn will be able to ask us the tough questions right back.
