SUMMARY:Bend 2030 Presents Envision OSU-Cascades
DESCRIPTION:Bend 2030 will host four workshops in April offering community members a chance to envision the future of Oregon State University – Cascades’ new campus and to provide input on the university’s long-range development plan. \nWhat ideas do you have for the new campus? Come and share them at these interactive and informative workshops. Participants will view preliminary campus models and plans\, use clickers to weigh in on big questions\, ask questions of OSU-Cascades planning team and offer insights for making this campus the best it can be. \nEach workshop will be hosted in a different quadrant of Bend—northeast\, southeast\, southwest and northwest—at locally owned pubs or restaurants. These convenient and casual workshops are designed to be fun\, with many different methods for community members to provide feedback on campus design\, as well as free appetizers and in most locations\, a no-host bar. \nInput from the workshops will be shared with OSU-Cascades in a report later this spring. The report and other community feedback will be considered by the architectural design team. The input will assist the design team in planning a university campus that reflects the values and needs of the Central Oregon community\, and also reflects the institution’s academic\, research and community service priorities. \nEnvision OSU-Cascades Event Details \nNORTHEAST BEND\nWednesday\, April 13\n5-7:30 p.m.\nRiverbend Brewing\n2650 NE Division St. \nNORTHWEST BEND\nThursday\, April 14\n5-7:30 p.m.\nBroken Top Bottle Shop\n1740 NW Pence Lane \nSOUTHWEST BEND\nWednesday\, April 20\n5-7:30 p.m.\nLa Rosa\nBrookswood Plaza\, 19570 Amber Meadow Dr. \nSOUTHEAST BEND\nThursday\, April 21\n5-7:30 p.m.\nKelly D’s Irish Pub\n1012 SE Cleveland Ave.

SUMMARY:CET Free Rides
DESCRIPTION:Cascades East Transit celebrates Earth Day with free rides and a sustainability themed mural on wheels!\nOn Friday\, April 22 the public is invited to take free rides on all CET Community Connector shuttles and Bend fixed-routes. Additionally CET is pleased to showcase a sustainability themed mural on the exterior of a CET bus. \nThe hand-painted mural was designed by the Youth Climate Action Now Bend Chapter (YouCAN) and features the beauty and natural environment of Central Oregon. Students from Summit High and Juniper Elementary School painted bus wraps which were installed on both sides of a CET bus. The sustainability themed bus can be seen on CET’s recreational routes\, Mt. Bachelor and Lava Butte. \nRiders may take transit free of charge on all Community Connector shuttles and Bend fixed-routes on Earth Day\, April 22. According to the Federal Transit Administration\, taking transit reduces greenhouse gas emissions\, improves air quality\, and saves energy. Bend service was recently expanded by 30 percent in September 2015 allowing riders more direct routes and shorter waiter times. For route information and to plan your trip by bus\, visit cascadeseasttransit.com. \nYouCan was formed in 2015 by high school students from Bend\, Summit\, and Mountain View High Schools to work on a healthy atmosphere and stable climate for all present and future generations. \nCentral Oregon Intergovernmental Council was designated a Council of Governments in 1972 under ORS 190. COIC provides service to the counties of Crook\, Deschutes\, and Jefferson as well as to the cities of Bend\, Culver\, La Pine\, Madras\, Metolius\, Prineville\, Redmond\, Sisters\, and Warm Springs. Cascades East Transit\, operated by COIC\, runs a fixed-route service in Bend\, community connector shuttles\, general public Dial-A-Ride services in Redmond\, La Pine\, Prineville\, Sisters\, and Madras\, flex-route service in Warm Springs\, as well as recreational routes like Ride the River and the Mt. Bachelor shuttle.

SUMMARY:SOLVE it for Earth Day
DESCRIPTION:As the number of people visiting and moving to our beautiful state continues to grow\, it has become more important than ever to keep it clean and healthy! Let’s come together to make this Earth Day the largest ever\, picking up litter\, removing invasive plants\, and planting native trees and shrubs across Oregon. Together we can make sure Oregon can remain the amazing place we all love. \nThe idea of people coming together on Earth Day to take care of and celebrate our planet began more than 45 years ago and was a perfect fit for SOLVE and our volunteers. In 1990\, SOLVE IT for Earth Day took root in the Greater Portland-Metro area\, fusing our hands-on approach with this worldwide day of service. Since then\, SOLVE IT for Earth Day has grown into Oregon’s largest Earth Day service event. \nOver the past 27 years more than 112\,000 volunteers have removed 15 million pounds of litter and invasive plants from illegal dumpsites\, neighborhoods\, and natural areas as part of this global event. \n*Projects available around the state! View the full list of Central Oregon opportunities here\, and register today!*

SUMMARY:Bike More Challenge Kickoff
DESCRIPTION:May 1st – 31st\nThe Bike More Challenge is a fun\, free competition to encourage your friends\, family\, and colleagues to experience first hand joys and benefits of riding a bike. \nHOW IT WORKS: \nBusinesses compete against each other to see who can get the most staff to ride a bike and log their trips between May 1-31. For 2016 we’re using a simple points model to allow workplaces to compete with each other across their size category (see the points system below). The points system has been carefully selected to ensure a fair and exciting competition\, and to strongly encourage workplaces to engage new riders if they want to climb the leaderboard and secure victory! \nIt’s not just about who can ride the most miles\, but also who can encourage the most people to give bicycling a try. Of course\, if you log more miles and more trips you’ll earn more points (and have a shot at some special individual prizes)\, but the fastest way to earn more points is to encourage more people to get on a bike and ride!

SUMMARY:Green Team Movie: Unacceptable Levels
DESCRIPTION:Green Team Movie Night\, Tuesday\, May 3rd\n“‘Unacceptable Levels’ examines the chemical revolution of the 1940s through the eyes of affable father and filmmaker Ed Brown.  Join him as he interviews top minds in the fields of science\, advocacy\, and law.  Weaving their testimonies into a compelling narrative\, Brown presents us with the story of how the chemical revolution brought us to where we are\, and where–if we’re not vigilant–it may take us.  This film poses challenges to our companies\, our government\, and our society to do something about a nearly-unseen threat with the inspired knowledge that small changes can generate a massive impact.” \nQuestions?  Call Nancy Merrick 541-815-6504
