SUMMARY:Green Tour kickoff with Keynote Speaker\, Sam Rashkin
DESCRIPTION:Kick off the Green Tour! with US Department of Energy’s Chief Architect of the Building Technology Office\, Sam Rashkin\n\nREGISTER HERE\n\nHigh-performance home advocates couldn’t be more passionate. Sharing that passion has always proven difficult because the benefits of high-performance homes are invisible to most consumers. This conversation is too important and too easy not to get right.\n\nJoin us to hear from Sam Rashkin as he shares his insight from his 25 years in field overseeing the certification of over 1 million ENERGY STAR homes. He’ll show us opportunities that are often overlooked to connect with consumers to demonstrate the value of high-performance homes.\n\n\n\nMeet the Speaker:\n\n\nAs Chief Architect for the Department of Energy’s Building Technologies Office\, Sam’s primary role is leading deployment of proven innovations for new and existing high-performance homes. In his prior position\, he managed the growth of ENERGY STAR for Homes from its inception in 1996 to more than 8\,000 builder partners\, over one million labeled homes\, and over 25 percent market penetration nationwide. During his 20-plus years as a licensed architect\, he specialized in energy efficient design and completed over 100 residential projects. He has served on the national Steering Committees for USGBC’s LEED for Homes\, NAHB’s Green Builder Guidelines\, and U.S. EPA’s Water Sense and Indoor airPLUS labels. Mr. Rashkin is a published author and has been recognized for his contributions to sustainable housing with the 2012 Hanley Award and 2019 EEBA Legend Award.\n\n\n\n\nThank you to our presenting sponsor\, Energy Trust of Oregon with additional support from E2 Solar\, Miller Lumber\, Saginaw Sunset\, Stemach Design + Architecture\, and Earth Advantage.

SUMMARY:Remodeling for Efficiency and Comfort
DESCRIPTION:This is panel second of seven panel discussions exploring topics related to and sites on the 2020 Green Tour. Visit the full schedule here.\n\n\nOur current housing stock has the potential to be more efficient\, healthier\, and more comfortable. Here’s how to do it.\n\nRegister here\n\n\nAn energy efficient home does not just refer to newly built homes. It is important to remember that there are an astounding number of homes in our current housing stock that have the potential to be more efficient\, healthier\, and more comfortable. Even homes that were built within the last few years can have major issues that will impact their efficiency and long-term durability.\n\n\nIf we are going to create a community where everyone can afford to pay their utility bills and have safe indoor air quality\, then we have to take a deep look at how we upgrade our existing housing stock.\n\n\nJoin us to learn about three local homes that have undergone various energy upgrades from insulation\, to airsealing to solar. They all took on some DIY projects and also turned to the pros on other projects. We’ll hear about how they decided which projects to do\, which to tackle themselves\, and how those projects are impacting their everyday lives now. We’ll be joined by home performance contractor\, GreenSavers to learn more about energy assessments and deep retrofits\, E2 Solar to hear what it’s like to go solar on an existing home and how to know if your home is a good fit for solar\, and building envelope specialist\, NW Aerobarrier.\n\n\nMeet our panelists \n\nJamie & Josh Harbick\, Homeowners\n\n\nMegan Cummings\, Senior Home Performance Consultant\, GreenSavers\n\n\nMichelle Porter\, Homeowner\n\n\nMike Hewitt\, Vice President\, E2 Solar\n\n\nPeter Grube\, Partner\, Northwest Aerobarrier\n\n\nRobert Hammerly\, Principal\, GreenSavers\n\n\n\nThank you to our presenting sponsor\, Energy Trust of Oregon with additional support from E2 Solar\, Miller Lumber\, Saginaw Sunset\, Stemach Design + Architecture\, and Earth Advantage.

SUMMARY:Attainable and Sustainable Housing: Featuring Kor Community Land Trust
DESCRIPTION:This is  the fourth of seven panel discussions exploring topics related to and sites on the 2020 Green Tour. Visit the full schedule here. \nGet the scoop on how and why this affordable housing organization is building zero energy homes. If they can do it—can you?\nREGISTER HERE\nKôr Community Land Trust was founded in 2015 to address the need for attainable homeownership in Bend. Many hard-working members of our community\, such as those who work in our schools and grocery stores\, cannot afford to purchase a home and put down roots here. Kôr provides permanently affordable homeownership opportunities for these important community members and their families.\n\nKôr’s homes will be built to minimize energy and water use. This is sustainable from both an environmental perspective AND a financial one by keeping utility bills low for the homeowner. At Kor’s first development\, Kôrazon\, they are developing zero energy homes–that is\, homes that produce as much energy as they use–with no utility bills. \n\nWhy zero energy? Because it means their families can reliably count on stable housing costs\, even as utility costs continue to increase. Because it means healthier indoor air quality. And because the homes will be more durable and need fewer repairs over the life of the home. Spoiler alert–zero energy homes might just be the missing link to creating more affordable housing for our entire community!\n\nJoin us to hear from Kor’s team including their designer\, home performance consultant\, solar contractor\, and envelope specialist to see how they are cost effectively getting to zero energy and how reaching this goal has the potential to change the lives of the families living in their homes.\n\nMeet our panelists \n\nAmy Warren\, Executive Director and Co-Founder\, Kor Community Land Trust\n\n\nBruce Sullivan\, BASE zero \n\n\nJason Offut\, The Shelter Studio & Co-Found\, Kor Community Land Trust\n\n\nJoe Mazzarella\, System Design\, Sunlight Solar\n\n\nPeter Grube\, Partner\, Northwest Aerobarrier\n\nThank you to our presenting sponsor\, Energy Trust of Oregon with additional support from E2 Solar\, Miller Lumber\, Saginaw Sunset\, Stemach Design + Architecture\, and Earth Advantage.

SUMMARY:Wildfires in 2020: What set the stage for this historic event and what can we expect in the future?
DESCRIPTION:The fires that broke out and spread across nearly 1 million acres of western Oregon this month are terrifying and devastating. We know from forest research and history that western Oregon’s forest ecosystems naturally burn. But a century of fire suppression\, logging\, development\, and climate change\, combined with weather conditions that drove the fires into rural and suburban communities\, led to this seemingly unprecedented event. As the smoke (hopefully) clears and we all take stock of these fires’ impacts to our communities and land\, join Oregon Wild for a discussion with fire experts about these contributing factors and how we might prepare for a more fire-prone future. \nFeaturing panelists Timothy Ingalsbee\, PhD\, Executive Director of Firefighters United for Safety\, Ethics\, and Ecology; Erica Fleishman\, PhD\, Director of the Oregon Climate Change Research Institute at Oregon State University; and Ken Carloni\, PhD\, Botanist/Forest Ecologist.
