SUMMARY:Other Side of the Hill film screening
DESCRIPTION:Where can East & West\, Republicans & Democrats\, find the common ground needed to address climate change? How can industry and  environmentalists work hand in hand? And how can local economies find opportunity in a lower emissions future? \nOTHER SIDE OF THE HILL explores the impacts of a changing climate in rural Eastern Oregon as seen through the eyes of local leaders on the ground. From innovative timber operations to large scale solar\, this film amplifies the voices of rural communities often left unheard\, and\nshines a light on stories of progress and hope. In a time of perceived cultural divide between rural and urban\, left and right\, young and old\, we discover common ground in an urgency to address a changing landscape. \nJoin us as we watch this film and discuss how we in Deschutes County can find a future for clean energy. We’ll be joined by Deschutes County Commissioner Phil Chang to kick off the event and Nick Johnson and Jim Walls\, two of the featured leaders in the film\, will join us for a panel discussion following the film screening. \n  \nRegister here! \n  \nThis event is cohosted with:

SUMMARY:Free virtual screening of “Who’s on Top?” LGBTQs Summit Mt. Hood!
DESCRIPTION:“Who’s on Top?” (narrated by George Takei) is a feature-length documentary which shines a spotlight on members of the LGBTQ+ community—including those with a range of mountaineering experience—who challenge stereotypes about gender and sexuality in the outdoor arena. This film tells a tender and adventurous story about members of Portland’s LGBTQ+ community who challenge stereotypes about gender and sexuality in the great outdoors. Historically excluded and ostracized—and with a range of mountaineering experience—they unite to climb Mount Hood. In doing so\, they also confront assumptions about who they are and how they belong in the world of outdoor adventure. \nOregon Wild is proud to present “Who’s on Top?” a special documentary screening online with an associated Q&A webinar. You’ll receive a personal link to the film to watch on your own time before joining on December 8th for a presentation from Oregon Wild staff\, and an exclusive Q&A session with director Devin Tau and cast members. \nWatch trailer here! \n

SUMMARY:Virtual Lecture: Assessing Arctic Health with Gyrfalcons
DESCRIPTION:As predators and arctic specialists\, Gyrfalcons are excellent indicator species for how climate change may be impacting habitat and food webs in arctic environments. During this virtual lecture\, Michaela Gustafson will share her work with the Peregrine Fund to identify what landscape features are important to Gyrfalcons as they choose nesting sites and how climate change may impact this species and others over time. Michaela is a graduate student at Boise State University and has spent the last seven years conducting field research on raptors and other birds from Puerto Rico to Alaska.

SUMMARY:Agriculture as Humanitarian Action: Addressing Immediate Needs and the Root Causes of Hunger
DESCRIPTION:What comes to mind when you think of humanitarian actions? Chances are\, it is not seeds and livestock. Yet\, agriculture is among the most cost-effective humanitarian interventions — saving livelihoods to save lives. Unfortunately\, this is not reflected in our collective response to a number of major ongoing crises. \nJoin for a policy discussion hosted by FAO North America in partnership with CARE\, Catholic Relief Services\, Mercy Corps and Save the Children on the urgent need to consider how we are responding to humanitarian crises\, and to ensure that agriculture — and efforts to improve resilience and protect the livelihoods of the most vulnerable communities — is a central part of our response.
