SUMMARY:Small Splendors\, Vast Landscapes
DESCRIPTION:Continuing ONDA’s High Desert Speaker Series\, Ellen Bishop will present “Small Splendors\, Vast Landscapes.” Oregon’s deserts offer serene and yet provocative landscapes that invite contemplation. Yet sometimes\, in viewing their sweeping vistas\, we overlook the details that provide insight to their origins. These micro views of a macro landscape tell stories of epic floods\, volcanic explosions\, violent storms and more\, as well as providing an entree to wildlife that we may overlook. Ellen’s image-rich talk is a guide to how we can read the details in these treasured landscapes that are precious to us all. \n*Registration will open on February 15 and close two hours before the event begins.

SUMMARY:Unlocking the Power of the Grid: Oregon’s Next Big Energy Opportunity
DESCRIPTION:How can we best harness all the clean and efficient energy needed to power our lives? What investments are needed to upgrade the aging power grid? \nPresenters at OEC’s next Business and Environment Forum will share how large-scale solutions (regional energy markets) and small-scale systems (local micro-grids and battery storage) are both needed for clean energy. SUMMARY:Climate Justice as Freedom
DESCRIPTION:Julie Sze\, Ph.D. believes that climate justice is a freedom struggle: one involving both negative and positive freedoms. Climate justice activists use the term “frontline” to make issues of race\, class\, indigeneity\, citizenship\, and gender more prominent and to highlight the disparities of who is most impacted and most responsible. Sze will discuss how frontline climate justice movements focus on well-informed radical hope and visions that help bring us into an emancipatory future. \n*FREE and OPEN to the public.
