SUMMARY:Virtual Lecture: Assessing Arctic Health with Gyrfalcons
DESCRIPTION:As predators and arctic specialists\, Gyrfalcons are excellent indicator species for how climate change may be impacting habitat and food webs in arctic environments. During this virtual lecture\, Michaela Gustafson will share her work with the Peregrine Fund to identify what landscape features are important to Gyrfalcons as they choose nesting sites and how climate change may impact this species and others over time. Michaela is a graduate student at Boise State University and has spent the last seven years conducting field research on raptors and other birds from Puerto Rico to Alaska.

SUMMARY:Agriculture as Humanitarian Action: Addressing Immediate Needs and the Root Causes of Hunger
DESCRIPTION:What comes to mind when you think of humanitarian actions? Chances are\, it is not seeds and livestock. Yet\, agriculture is among the most cost-effective humanitarian interventions — saving livelihoods to save lives. Unfortunately\, this is not reflected in our collective response to a number of major ongoing crises. \nJoin for a policy discussion hosted by FAO North America in partnership with CARE\, Catholic Relief Services\, Mercy Corps and Save the Children on the urgent need to consider how we are responding to humanitarian crises\, and to ensure that agriculture — and efforts to improve resilience and protect the livelihoods of the most vulnerable communities — is a central part of our response.

SUMMARY:"Getting Dollars to Rural: Strategies for Funding Rural Priorities"
DESCRIPTION:Join Rural Development Initiatives for their next Community Conversations webinar. \nFederal\, state\, and philanthropic resources to rural communities are disproportionately low\, so hard-won consensus on priorities is met with significant resource challenges. SUMMARY:Universal Representation Community Forum
DESCRIPTION:FARMWORKER OVERTIME\nFor too long farmworkers have been excluded from receiving overtime pay. This exclusion has roots in the racist 1938 Federal Labor Standards Act\, which sought to deny Black farmworkers from this benefit. This exclusion was wrong in 1938 and it’s wrong now. Farmworkers deserve to be paid for their hard work just like everyone else. Through this multi-year phased-in plan\, farmworkers will finally receive the pay they deserve. \nUNIVERSAL LEGAL REPRESENTATION\nOur country’s immigration court system is complex and confusing. Too many immigrants are left to navigate this complicated system by themselves when they’re given a deportation order\, often in a language they’re not fluent in. Through Universal Legal Representation\, Oregon would connect immigrants with legal support and help families stay together. \nJoin Adelante Mujeres and more on a community forum to learn about these two important initiatives.

SUMMARY:Livestream Author Event Robin Wall Kimmerer
DESCRIPTION:Join for a talk with Robin Wall Kimmerer\, author of UO Common Reading selection Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom\, Scientific Knowledge\, and the Teachings of Plants. \nDrawing on her life as an Indigenous scientist\, a mother\, and a woman\, Kimmerer shows how other living beings offer us gifts and lessons\, even if we’ve forgotten how to hear their voices. In a rich braid of reflections that range from the creation of Turtle Island to the forces that threaten its flourishing today\, she circles toward a central argument: that the awakening of a wider ecological consciousness requires the acknowledgment and celebration of our reciprocal relationship with the rest of the living world.
