SUMMARY:Deschutes River FLOWtilla
DESCRIPTION:The Deschutes river needs your help. Bring your kayaks\, canoes\, SUP’s\, borrow from friends\, or rent on-site\, and gather together with others who care about the river. We will meet at Tumalo Creek Kayak and Canoe to put-in and then paddle through the Old Mill area\, assembling as a large group for a community photo in support of restoring healthy flows to our river. Let it FLOW! \nFamily friendly! Everyone is welcome! \nWhat if you discovered that every October\, the Upper Deschutes River is reduced to a trickle\, killing fish and other wildlife? \nWould you wonder why it is happening? Would you wonder if there are solutions that would allow our river to flourish again? \nIt can be done! There’s enough water for fish AND farms\, but only if we conserve and share\, please join us in this community gathering to learn more about the health of the Deschutes River.

SUMMARY:America’s First Forest: Carl Schenck & the Asheville Experiment
DESCRIPTION:Join Discover Your Forest and the Deschutes National Forest for a screening of America’s First Forest: Carl Schenck and the Asheville Experiment. The film tells the story of how Carl Schenck realized Frederick Law Olmsted’s vision of introducing forestry to America. It was on George Vanderbilt’s magnificent Biltmore Estate in Asheville\, North Carolina that a 120\,000-acre forest became America’s first scientifically managed forest. Here the nation’s first forestry school was founded\, and the call for creating National Forests in the United States was inspired. Introduction by Jean Nelson Dean\, Public Affairs Officer for the Deschutes National Forest.
