SUMMARY:Green Drinks at Stemach Design & Architecture
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a fun Green Drinks this summer\, hosted by Stemach Design + Architecture\, featuring Bend Area Habitat for Humanity and ReStore. \nStemach Design + Architecture\, located in the Box Factory in downtown Bend\, is dedicated to projects that embody careful\, coordinated design with a positive impact to each project’s surroundings. Owners Stacey and Rachel Stemach\, along with the entire team\, are dedicated to economic\, environmental and equitable sustainability. You’re probably familiar with the firm’s impressive work around Central Oregon – including Spoken Moto\, Immersion Brewing\, 10 Barrel\, The Bite (in Tumalo)\, and the ReStore. \nBend Area Habitat for Humanity is dedicated to building affordable homes for income challenged families and individuals in Bend. Bend Habitat also operates ReStore\, a home improvement resale center that sells building materials\, furniture and appliances to the community. The ReStore offers a great place for the community to donate their items\, keeping more than 3.6 tons from the landfill each year. Proceeds from ReStore directly benefit Bend Area Habitat. (In fact\, ReStore covers 100% of Bend Habitat’s operating expenses!) Two years ago\, with the help of generous sponsors\, Bend Habitat was able to install a large solar system on the ReStore. And currently\, they’re expanding to create an even better experience for the community \nJoin us for an evening of mingling and learning in a really neat\, new space (which\, fun fact\, was designed by Stemach!) – and we have a feeling you’ll walk away with an appreciation for thoughtful\, sustainable design. \nPLEASE REGISTER IN ADVANCE.\n

SUMMARY:Climate Reality Presentation
DESCRIPTION:The environment sorely needs our defense these days! \nHow can we help? Come to a Climate Reality presentation by A.J. and Caroline Skidmore \n“My older son A.J. and I recently returned from an intensive 3 day Climate Reality Leadership Training given by  a variety of leaders in the area of sustainability and climate change. We obtained an incredible amount of new information on climate change and solutions to address the situation we are in. We were both trained as Climate Leaders and have been asked to share our presentation on climate change and renewable energy to people in our community. My son Jack has done presentations at Cascade Middle School (all 8th graders) and Pacific Crest Middle School (6th graders). I have received excellent feedback from both schools” – Caroline Skidmore \nQuestions?  Call or e-mail Thiel Larson  541-388-4895  tlarson@bendbroadband.com

SUMMARY:The Unusual Flora of Pine Mountain
DESCRIPTION:Savor the views along the open crest of Pine Mountain while exploring the mountain’s distinctive flora\, which is more closely affiliated with the Blue Mountain region than Central Oregon’s typical volcanic soils. Charmane Powers\, who has worked as a botanist on the Deschutes National Forest since 1990\, and LeeAnn Kriegh\, author of “The Nature of Bend\,” will lead the hike. Along with taking a close look at the remarkable adaptations of species like mountain mahogany that line the trail\, we’ll have fun scouting for the rare green-tinged paintbrush (Castilleja chlorotica). \nRegister here for the hike.\nDifficulty: Moderate – 2-3 miles. The trail is rocky in places\, with moderate elevation gain. Some off-trail excursions may be included.\n \nPicnic lunch provided by: El Sancho
