SUMMARY:Harney County Migratory Bird Festival
DESCRIPTION:Spend an amazing weekend witnessing the spectacular spring  migration in the Harney Basin of Southeast Oregon. View thousands of migratory birds as they rest and feed in the open spaces of Oregon’s  high desert. Held annually in April in Harney County. \nThe Harney County Migratory Bird Festival was first held in 1981 to celebrate the large annual migration of birds passing through Harney Basin on the Pacific Flyway. Harney Basin is one of the three most important areas left in the western United States for spring migratory birds stopping on their way north. \nOver 300 species of birds use the refuge throughout each year\, making Harney Basin a bird watcher’s paradise. Today\, we continue to celebrate the migratory birds’ return each year with guided tours led by experts\, workshops\, and fun activities for both youth and adults.

SUMMARY:Bend Bike Swap
DESCRIPTION:2016 BEND BIKE SWAP\nDates:  April 7th through 9th \nLocation: Bend National Guard Armory \nOnline Item registration: Click on the Item Registration tab at the top of this page \nOn-Site Item Registration:  April 7th from 3PM to 6PM\, April 8th from 9AM to 11AM \nBike Swap Sale and Events:  April 8th from Noon to 6PM\, April 9th from 9AM to 3PM \nItem Pickup:  You can pick up consigned items that did not sell on Saturday the 9th between 4PM to 6PM. \nThe Bike Swap began as the brainchild of Ryan McGlone\, a Boneyard Cycling team member that was looking for new ways to give back to the local community.  After sharing this idea with other team members over frosty pints it was clear that Bend was in need of a bike swap and it was up to Boneyard to make it happen.  All the team needed was a place to hold the event.  As word spread\, local business owner Matt Massingale generously stepped in and offered up Cascade Rack’s retail space as the first venue location.   Armed with a shoestring budget and limited planning\, the First Annual Bend Bike Swap boasted serious promise yielding $12\,000 in sales\, raising just over a thousand dollars for local beneficiaries Mount Bachelor Sports Education Foundation and Bend Endurance Academy.  From there we knew this needed to become an annual event! \nWhat is the ultimate goal of the Bend Bike Swap?  Create a community event that serves as Central Oregon’s kickoff to the spring cycling season\, and to raise money for multiple local nonprofit cycling advocates.    The more we grow\, the more we give back! \nHow much money does Boneyard Cycling Make off this event?  Believe it or not\, Boneyard Cycling takes ZERO revenue from the event.  We count on generous sponsor support to cover event costs.  We do use event sales revenues to cover any cost overrides.  Besides that\, everything we make goes to support our beneficiaries that help with the planning and organization of this event. \nWhat does the Boneyard Team get out of this event?  A few extra months of additional stress and the great satisfaction of giving back to our community\, and cultivating new friendships through enthusiastic conversation over two-wheeled human powered transportation.

SUMMARY:Bend 2030 Presents Envision OSU-Cascades
DESCRIPTION:Bend 2030 will host four workshops in April offering community members a chance to envision the future of Oregon State University – Cascades’ new campus and to provide input on the university’s long-range development plan. \nWhat ideas do you have for the new campus? Come and share them at these interactive and informative workshops. Participants will view preliminary campus models and plans\, use clickers to weigh in on big questions\, ask questions of OSU-Cascades planning team and offer insights for making this campus the best it can be. \nEach workshop will be hosted in a different quadrant of Bend—northeast\, southeast\, southwest and northwest—at locally owned pubs or restaurants. These convenient and casual workshops are designed to be fun\, with many different methods for community members to provide feedback on campus design\, as well as free appetizers and in most locations\, a no-host bar. \nInput from the workshops will be shared with OSU-Cascades in a report later this spring. The report and other community feedback will be considered by the architectural design team. The input will assist the design team in planning a university campus that reflects the values and needs of the Central Oregon community\, and also reflects the institution’s academic\, research and community service priorities. \nEnvision OSU-Cascades Event Details \nNORTHEAST BEND\nWednesday\, April 13\n5-7:30 p.m.\nRiverbend Brewing\n2650 NE Division St. \nNORTHWEST BEND\nThursday\, April 14\n5-7:30 p.m.\nBroken Top Bottle Shop\n1740 NW Pence Lane \nSOUTHWEST BEND\nWednesday\, April 20\n5-7:30 p.m.\nLa Rosa\nBrookswood Plaza\, 19570 Amber Meadow Dr. \nSOUTHEAST BEND\nThursday\, April 21\n5-7:30 p.m.\nKelly D’s Irish Pub\n1012 SE Cleveland Ave.

SUMMARY:Geology of Oregon's High Desert
DESCRIPTION:Daniele McKay\, Ph.D.\, Geologist and Instructor at OSU-Cascades\, will enlighten us on our local environs. The desert landscapes of eastern Oregon have been shaped by subduction zones\, continental rifting\, and hot spots that originate from deep within the Earth. Together these tectonic forces have created a diverse landscape of rugged mountain ranges\, high lava plains\, and deep river canyons. \nJoin us for a discussion of how eastern Oregon has been shaped by geologic forces\, and how these forces continue to create diverse and beautiful desert landscapes.  At the Environmental Center\, 16 NW Kansas\, Bend\, 6:30 pm gathering/snacks\, 7:00 program.  Free\, donations welcome.

SUMMARY:Spring 2016 Worn Wear Tour
DESCRIPTION:As individual consumers\, the single best thing we can do for the planet is to keep our stuff in use longer. This simple act of extending the life of our garments through proper care and repair reduces the need to buy more over time—thereby avoiding the CO2 emissions\, waste output and water usage required to build it. \nCome visit Patagonia@Bend for free repairs on your busted zippers\, rips\, tears\, buttons and more (we fix all brands). We’ll also have lightly used Patagonia gear for sale and can show you how to make simple repairs on clothes that have a second life left in them. \nBrew Dr. Kombucha will be on hand serving refreshments! Come by at 7:00 p.m. for happy hour with Silver Moon Brewing and a screening of our Worn Wear film. \n*Fine print: our tour staff can fix about 40 garments per day\, all repairs are made on a first come\, first served basis. One repair per guest. \n\nALSO…\nIf you can’t make it on Friday\, the Worn Wear van will also be at Smith Rock State Park on April 22nd and 23rd. Check the tour schedule for full details. \nPhoto: Donnie Hedden
