SUMMARY:Fill Your Pantry
DESCRIPTION:Fill Your Pantry is a community bulk buying event created so YOU can fill up your pantry\, freezer\, and root cellar full of great local products for the winter. Say bye-bye to busy holiday lines and produce that has traveled farther than you during holiday vacations\, and say hello to a cupboard full of local meat\, grains\, vegetables\, ferments\, and more. \nThe Central Oregon Fill Your Pantry will allow you to stock up on items like potatoes\, onions\, leeks\, beets\, winter squash\, garlic\, honey\, flours\, apples\, pears\, dried beans\, krauts\, baked goods\, and more. \nThis is a bulk buying event\, so bring your muscles! Farmers\, ranchers\, orchardists\, and producers will be selling large quantities of items. For example\, 20lb bags of onions\, 50lb bags of potatoes\, 25lb ground beef boxes\, etc. This is a great opportunity for vendors to move product before the harsh Central Oregon winter and a great opportunity for YOU to save money and eat well all winter long. \nProceeds from this event and its sponsors benefit Central Oregon Locavore Non Profit. Central Oregon Locavore promotes local food and farmers for the health of our community.

SUMMARY:Candlelight Dinner @ Deschutes Brewery
DESCRIPTION:Join the Bend Energy Challenge to dine by candlelight and learn how you can make your home bright and cozy while saving lots of energy. Learn how to reduce your utility bills\, light up your home all winter long with efficient LEDs\, and be entered for raffle prizes. \nThis is a timely event to shine a light on increased energy costs during winter months. Shorter daylight hours bring a substantially increased demand for interior and exterior lighting. Super efficient LED lighting can save up to 80% on lighting costs. \nEligible diners will be able to sign up for up to 16 free LEDs from the Bend Energy Challenge through their collaborative program with Energy Trust of Oregon and Central Electric Coop. \nAll diners will be entered into a raffle drawing to win LED light bulbs\, LED Christmas lights\, free home energy assessments\, a date night package with gift card from Deschutes Brewery and movie tickets\, and locally made candles. \n\n  \n \nThe Deschutes Brewery Bend Public House will host the first candlelight dinner on Wednesday\, December 14th from 5:00 – 10:00.  \nDeschutes Brewery’s commitment to the environment is why they joined the Bend Energy Challenge and switch to energy efficient LED lighting as a symbol for their commitment to the planet. \nThey’ve replaced lighting throughout their production facility with LEDs using 69% less energy\, equating to powering 8 homes for a year. \nThey state that: “As a member of our local and global communities\, we take responsibility for our influence on the planet. We balance what we take with what we give back by tracking our economic\, environmental\, and social efforts. We actively seek out opportunities to positively impact the communities where our beer is available. We have accomplished much to be proud of since 1988\, yet there remains work to be done. We will continue to contribute solutions that make a real difference. We hope our activities will inspire others to do the same.”

\nAll diners will be entered into a raffle drawing to win LED light bulbs\, LED Christmas lights\, free home energy assessments\, a date night package with gift card from Jackson’s Corner and movie tickets\, and locally made candles. \n\n \n  \nJackson’s Corner will host the second candlelight dinner at their west side location on Tuesday\, December 15th from 5:00 – 9:00.  \nJackson’s Corner focuses on local sustainable food systems that build up local farms\, provide the ultimate in fresh\, healthy ingredients\, and reduce transportation costs of food. They feel that conscious sourcing of food (local\, humane\, organic\, etc.) is better for the health of our Central Oregon communities. They believe that it is possible to support your local farmers within a restaurant. Plus\, in addition to serving fresh\, healthy\, locally-sourced food to our community\, Jackson’s Corner has begun donating leftover bread to those in need at Bethlehem Inn.

SUMMARY:Juniper Group Sierra Club Holiday Pot Luck
DESCRIPTION:Join The Juniper Group Sierra Club for the annual Holiday Party & Pot Luck (and Food Drive!)\nFrom the Juniper Group newsletter…. \nBring a favorite main or side dish\, appetizer\, salad or dessert to set on the table (yum!)\, plus your beverage of choice (we’ll provide the nonalcoholic kind). New members\, we want to meet YOU! \nThis year we’ve initiated a Holiday nonperishable Food Drive to help Central Oregon families in need. \nBring one or more canned or nonperishable nutritious food items to help stamp out hunger.  According to the USDA\, Oregon is one of the five hungriest states nationally\, and local food banks have trouble keeping enough on their shelves this time of year.  Your compassionate donations will be distributed to area food banks. \nLocal duo NTT (“entity”) is back!  Kevin and Debby will play a selection of lively favorites and Holiday tunes\, where guitar\, flute\, percussion and voice blend into their unique harmony. Really wonderful entertainment! \nSlides of recent hikes and camp outs will loop during the evening\, and we’ll share a brief overview of 2017 programs and aspirations. \nNew Membership forms will be available\, just $15.  If you’re not a member\, won’t you consider joining?  We need a strong\, powerful Sierra Club nationally\, statewide and locally for the uncertain and challenging days ahead under a Trump administration.  Contribute what you can to a donation jar for Oregon Sierra Club’s Political Action Committee (PAC) to strengthen our state and local political program supporting strong environmental candidates and to fight threats to existing clean air and water\, climate and other guardian laws we’ve worked so hard to implement. \nBring a friend\, come share an evening with like-minded nature and planet protectors!
