SUMMARY:Round Butte Clean Up
DESCRIPTION:Round Butte is a dormant\, shield volcano located between Madras and Culver. This beautiful area is popular with locals and visitors alike. From the top\, you are treated to a 360-degree view of the snow capped Cascade Range from Mt. Bachelor to Mt. Hood\, Madras to the north and Culver and open desert dotted with buttes to the south and east. It is a great place to enjoy fresh air and get plenty of sunshine. Depending on our spring weather\, balsamroot and lupine may just be beginning to bloom. The area is also used as an off-highway vehicle course and shooting range; unfortunately\, some who use it leave garbage\, pallets\, tires\, appliances\, old targets\, shell casings and more littering the once pristine area. Last year\, volunteers picked up more than 5 tons of micro litter\, household and building materials waste\, and invasive weeds. The Butte needs your help again this Earth Day. Please join SOLVE and the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department to clean up Round Butte. Volunteers are needed to pick up litter. \nVolunteer Limit: 10

SUMMARY:Spring Gardening Seminar
DESCRIPTION:Greenhouse Design for All-Season Growing taught by Eileen Obermiller\, Landscape Architect \nWhat can I expect to germinate\, grow\, and harvest with a residential All-Season Greenhouse? How much effort does it take to make it work?  How is a residential All-Season Greenhouse different from a typical greenhouse? Does it need winter heating? What happens when temperatures drop to minus 20 degrees? Won’t it overheat in the summer? We will answer these questions focusing on which vegetables are best suited for summer verses winter growing\, when to plant those seeds\, and how to prolong harvests.  We will discuss strategies for collecting and storing heat as well as other important considerations in the design of a residential All-Season Greenhouse. \n

SUMMARY:Let Giants Grow: Biden's Executive Order on Forests and Climate
DESCRIPTION:Last week\, President Biden signed an Executive Order that recognized the importance of mature and old-growth forests as a climate solution but stopped short of protecting these forests from their #1 threat: logging across federal public lands. \nSo what does this order actually do? \nOn May 4th\, representatives from the Climate Forests campaign will unpack the details of this announcement: the good\, the bad\, and the steps forest and climate activists will need to take to ensure this executive order results in a responsible\, substantial\, climate-focused policy that actually protects our mature and old-growth forests for future generations.

SUMMARY:Power Hour | Homegrown Renewables: Community Solar
DESCRIPTION:This year for Earth Month (and beyond)\, we’d love to see our community take action in a multitude of ways to secure a healthy climate future. A super easy and convenient way to take action is to sign up to get your electricity from renewable solar energy that is produced right here in Oregon through Oregon’s Community Solar Program. We’ve put together this event so that you can learn about the program and find out how you can sign up for the program. \nOregon’s Community Solar Program has projects coming online this year for Pacific Power customers! Community solar allows subscribers to benefit from solar without installing panels on their own roof. Individuals\, businesses\, and organizations can subscribe to a central\, off-site project and receive the energy benefits for their portion of the project on their current Pacific Power bill*. \nThis opportunity allows households that have traditionally been underserved by solar energy such as renters and those who live in multifamily residences to invest in clean\, renewable energy without barriers such as not owning your home\, high up-front costs\, or having a shady roof. The added bonus is that you will pay less for the renewable energy than your current electricity rates! Additionally\, income-eligible households can save up to 40% off the cost of their electricity. \nCome learn more about Oregon’s Community Solar Program! You will see where projects are being built in Oregon and how to subscribe! \nRight now\, through Sunday\, May 15th\, Oregon Shines will donate $25 to TEC for each community solar subscription. It’s a win-win for our community! \n*If you are a CEC customer learn more about their programs here. \nMeet our speaker \nCarly Sellers is a Program Manager at Oregon Shines. She manages and develops programs that are designed to connect Oregonians with sustainable energy options while also providing resources and education on the importance of clean energy for a sustainable future. Our mission is to educate individuals\, businesses\, and municipalities on the benefits of Community Solar so that they are empowered to take part in creating a more sustainable future.  \nRegister for the in-person event \nRegister to attend virtually
